Introduction

Industrialization was the period when America’s socioeconomic infrastructure began to develop. Industrialization came after the 1812 war and from 1815 to 1860; there were lots of new inventions, based on scientific discoveries. There were lots of people moving to the areas where the industries were established to provide labor.

New Materials Developed

The Bowie knife was one of the instruments made by Col. James Bowie. Bowie made the knife for use during the fights, and despite being shorter than a sword, it was heavy thus providing enough force that would help cut and thrust. The knife came in varying sizes (Jones, 1846). The features of the Bowie knife were a curved keen point with weight accumulating at the back.

Prussian music grew during this period and was presented by the Boston Brigade Band. It was martial music from the Prussian army. Prussia was highly recognized because of the excellent military bands. The introduction of Prussian music was meant to enhance the style of martial music. New musical instruments were made such as the viol seraphine.

Transportation systems developed during this time. There were advancements made with the roads, canals, and railways (Jones, 1846). The improvement of transport was meant to enhance the transportation of the newly manufactured good in the industries as well as people who worked in the industries.

How the New Materials Contributed to New Inventions

The new materials created a need for more inventions. The development of the transportation system, for example, led to the establishment of more industries. The transport systems made it possible for businesses to be conducted easily. There was a large development of markets. The new materials would be moved to the markets using road, caravans and railway transport. Production could be done in large-scale as materials were easily brought in the industries (Furtado, 2018). More people started to settle in the areas where the industries were established, and it led to urbanization. The settlement areas grew in the settlement as well as exchange centers.

Another Aspect of Industrialization

Industrialization did take not only the form of economic change but also political revolution and other forms of business such as gambling. The patriotism of Gen. Taylor is indicated where he was to work in prosecuting the war to ensure the welfare of the Americans. Gaming developed among the people who were employed in the boats by the fishermen. Gambling resulted in people losing their money, for instance, one colored fisherman who was onboard in a steamboat moving from Saint Louis to New Orleans lost all his money, staked his clothes as well as his freedom to get a small amount of money. The fisherman ended up being a slave and criminal where he had to pay a certain penalty. Instead of gambling being a business opportunity, it became a vice and a crime among the people. The colored man ended up losing his certificates because they were destroyed and the winner sold him to a slave dealer (Jones, 1846). At first, the slave dealer did not want the slave because he had less value. Therefore, industrialization brought back the vice of slavery which had been abolished earlier.

Conclusion

Industrialization led to the development of American society. New inventions were made from machinery to new products which led to the growth of trade. The flow of money in the society increased with the exchange of goods. Industrialization also led to the development of the society with migration and development of urban centers.
