TikTok is one of the latest technologies in communication. The app is used by more than 1 billion people; it has had an immense impact on mass communication. There has been beneficial in accessing the young generation. The majority of Tik Tok users are individuals below the age of 30 years. The app requires a lot of creativity to design meaningful and appealing messages. Also, Tik Tok gives people the freedom to express themselves. Being an aspect of communication, the platform influences the communication skills of children. The research aims at finding the impact of Tik Tok on children communication skills in the UAE.

Problem Statement

According to Nabavi (2012), the social learning theory postulates that people learn from the social interactions that they have. Through things such as observation and communication, people imitate and assimilate behaviors. Tik Tok communication influences the behavior of children. Cobley & Schulz (2013) regard communication as a collection of data that can influence the communication skills of an individual. Similarly, through Tik Tok communication, children can collect data that would affect their communication skills. Due to the availability of the internet and the gadgets used, children can easily access Tik Tok (Roy & Tang, 2020). However, the point of contention is the content that children can access for their use. There is the likelihood that children can access contents that negatively manipulates their communication skills (Bresnick, 2019). The research, therefore, is concerned with analyzing the concerns regarding the effect of Tik Tok in influencing the communication behavior of children.

The advent of the internet has introduced such products as the social media. Tik Tok is one of the types of the social media. Social media has the importance of interconnecting people from different parts of the world. Tik Tok has features that make it a social platform for children. One characteristic behavior of the internet is the influence on the behavior of children (Strasburger et al., 2010). It justifies the reason why Tik Tok is likely to influence communication skills of children.

The possibility of children developing communication skills towards a given direction is dependent on the factors in their environment (Riemer, 2002). Effective communication skill development is a necessity in children is it molds to have proper behavior (Veil et al., 2008). The language that a child uses reflects the behavior and communication competence of the child. An effective communication skill leads to the better quality of life (Maguire & Pitceathly, 2002). Tik Tok as a social media platform avails contents that influence the behavior children. The type of communication that a child emulates may depend on the content of Tik Tok that a child experiences (Riemer, 2007). The research uses Tik Tok as the determinant factor in shaping the communication skills of an individual.
