The second compelling topic relates to strategy formulation and processes because it provided the necessary knowledge needed to choose the best action that will help in achieving certain goals. The skills that I got on this topic are also vital to ensuring the success of any business which means that they will be vital in future. The topics and the course, in general, were enjoyable because of the teaching strategy that was used in class, more specifically because of the discussion debates.
Importance of Discussion Debates
The discussion debates were important throughout the course because they helped me be in a position to express my thoughts and views in an effective manner. Through the process, I was also able to learn from my fellow classmates in terms of their understanding of the various topics. Learning from fellow classmates is often easier and enjoyable, thus making the learning experience more enjoyable. The discussions also encouraged me to state my views which were then corrected by my fellow classmates and thus increased my level of understanding.
The discussion debates were also helpful in making sure that there is critical thinking among the members of the class ( Bransford, 2006) . It means that members did not only depend on the notes that were being provided in class but had to do more research before the debates. It means that there was the opportunity for true learning to take place which means that there is the opportunity to acquire more knowledge.
Other Approaches
Some of the approached that could have been used include the flipped classroom that involves a typical lecture which happens at home as opposed to the classroom. The students, in this case, watch the lectures on video at home and then return to school to engage in activities like asking questions and doing exercises ( Hyson, 2008) . The process helps students to prepare for the classes and increases their level of understanding because they can always get clarification on issues that they have not understood.
Another approach that would have been useful in this case is the project-based learning where students try to explore real-life problems. Even though the theoretical work is important, real-world problems are vital because they are what most of us are going to face in the near future. The strategy is useful in developing content knowledge and also solutions to various problems. In addition, it helps in identifying real-life problems that need to be solved.
Conclusion
It is evident that business policies and strategies are vital because it covers a topic that is crucial in the business world such as competitive advantage which is one of the issues that help companies meet their objectives. The learning strategy used was effective and other strategies can also be applied such as flipped classroom and project-based learning.
