Doctor Patient Communication describes the procedure through which the  physician  brings to the connection a technical information of organ systems and disorder processes, clinical understanding, medical decision, and in best situations, empathy and comprehending of the  patient's demands and concerns (Liu et al. 2015). In other words, the topic describes the process through which doctors are able to understand the information presented to them by the patients.

Based on the topic of doctor patient communication, the National Institute on Aging indicates that when communicating with elderly individuals, there are certain challenges or problems that can be experienced such as loss of hearing, and memory problems. This therefore indicates that, doctors should be able to learn how they can communicate with elderly people including how to debate on cognitive impairment, break bad information, and working with the families and health care providers (Liu et al. 2015). The National Institute on Aging also indicates that proper doctor patient communication is one of the major processes that promotes healing based on the patient’s conditions.

A research conducted on the doctor patient communication indicates some of the primary ways through which effective doctor patient communication can be facilitated. One of the major ways through which doctor patient communication is first understanding the older patients based in accordance to their age ( Lipp et al. 2016) . This involves the doctors ability to spend more time with the older patients or giving them extra time, since some of them might develop hearing and memory problems, thus when more time is spend with them, doctors will be able to understand the needs of these patients. Additionally, it is significant to state, that doctor patient communication can become effective when the doctors listen carefully to the older patients without interrupting them since interruptions may lead to memory problems whereby, they would not be able to remember what was being discussed (Janz et al. 2017). It can also be stated that, knowing how to communicate with the doctor also enables older patients to get accurate and precise treatment.
