Unsafe Working Conditions

The dangerous working environment is the best definition of hazardous working conditions. In such a working environment, employees are unable to perform daily duties without compromising their health safety (Swartz, 2001). There is a working environment that is generally thought to be risky like the construction industry. However, such industries are bound to put up protective measures to safeguard their employees. Failure to implement safety measures results in unsafe working conditions. The hazardous environment is a severe threat to humanity. It may cause a serious injury or result in illness. For example, machinery causes physical damage like chopping off the hand, while hazardous gases lead t respiratory challenges. Hence, unsafe working conditions is a safety hazard.

Impact of Unsafe Working Conditions

Dangerous working conditions lower employees’ morale. Morale is essential to all employees and can determine the success of a business. A motivated worker is like a machine that works efficiently. The reason for this is that workers remain focused on the mission and vision of a company as they feel part of the organization. Presence of an unsafe environment diminishes morale and employees feel humiliated. As a result, the relationship with the organization turns out to be wanting. For example, it harms communication whereby employees cannot express their feelings and ideas to the managers.

Furthermore, employees fail to act as ambassadors in the organization. The weak relationship extends its effect to the daily operations resulting in low productivity. The potential impact of unsafe working conditions is an injury. An injured worker provides poor quality work. Furthermore, it results in absenteeism which reduces labor input. What follows is that the production capacity is jeopardized. Moreover, safety hazards cause stress to employees, thus lowering their quality and quantity of production. Therefore, dangerous working environment lowers employee’s morale, compromise relationship and eventually lower productivity levels.

The company caught up in Unsafe working Condition

Tyson Foods was found to have a dangerous working environment. Tyson Foods is a poultry producer with products like chicken nuggets. Employees in this company are treated ruthlessly. For example, “workers dangerously stand close together in the assembly line” (Berman, 2018). Standing close while working with sharp knives and tools is dangerous. Working with machines close together heightens the challenge. Additionally, workers are denied restrooms which is unsafe.

Best Practices to Implement in an Organization

Organizations should perform a risk assessment. To improve safety, the first thing is to identify the perils of a company. It gives a better safety response. After that, prevention strategies are implemented. Such policies include training employees on the safety precautions and providing them with safety equipment like gloves. Also, companies should have a response plan in case of injuries. With such measures, employees feel secure.

Ethical Practices of Tyson Foods

Ethical practices in this company are fair. Tyson foods have been reported to have unsafe working conditions which are unethical. For example, workers standing dangerously close together. Another wrong practice is that the company was found mistreating piglets. On the other hand, the company trains its employees to comply with the ethical standards. Its core values like honesty form the basis of its ethical practices.

Conclusion

Unsafe working conditions are detrimental in an organization. It lowers employees’ morale and thus compromises their productivity. Companies with safe working conditions are at a better competitive edge compared to organizations that do not adhere to safety standards. Hence, organizations should maintain a safe environment by implementing safety measures like training employees.
