It is no doubt that both Western and the Chinese philosophy have been more than a professional commentary for the last couple of decades now. Confucius philosophy deals with the overall study of reality, nature of knowledge as well as existence. Apparently, the need for the western culture to understand the Confucian values especially in the contemporary society is quite obvious given the rate at which the Chinese economy is growing. Regrettably, the Chinese philosophy, especially to the Western academy, has been a story of exclusion in various discourses. This paper, therefore, intends to discuss in detail the theme of the Confucian philosophy on the Western culture. The paper will closely look at the thought that Confucian offers to the Westerners, the applicability of Confucian to the westerners as the “Western”, and the substantial differences between the Confucian ethics and the philosophers.

The values of Confucian on the western thought are undeniable given the rich cultural heritage surrounding it. Despite the variation of cultural approaches between the western and the Confucian, the two cultures share primary pedagogic patterns on the collective morals as well as justice. Additionally, an economic class has been the basis of the contemporary western cultures something that has been one of the main themes in the Confucian philosophy.

The applicability of Confucian in the western culture has been tremendous especially in understanding ethical issues regarding family and can as well inform policy recommendations. For instance, Confucian stresses on the aspect of parents nurturing children as well as the overall responsibility of government in creating a healthy political environment for families to flourish something that the western culture has been emphasizing on.

Confucianism considers an individual as being dependent in the community, therefore, defining a particular personhood built by the relationships that are basic to one’s life depending on various roles one exemplifies in the society. By way of contrast, the philosophers define a particular individual regarding intrinsic characteristics that do not depend on other people. This is quite different to the Confucian ethics where someone becomes an accomplished individual because of others.

In a nutshell, it is evident that the Confucian and the western culture share a lot in common especially in the contemporary society where economic interest has been diversified. While western civilization has not been embracing Confucian philosophy especially in academic discourse, it is paramount if this culture is encouraged at all cost.

Comments on the Example Writing

In my opinion, Confucian has proven substantial to the western culture particularly in the justice and educational perspectives. While many countries do not embrace such values, it is important to integrate them in the current societal settings given the fact that Chinese economy has taken a notch higher. Therefore, it would be imperative for the western countries to relate to the Confucian values for better understanding.
