Al-Qaeda has been a renowned terrorist group, and it has launched many terror attacks on the United States. The members of Al-Qaeda are Islamic jihadists aiming to terrorize countries that support other religions. As a result of these attacks, Homeland Security has launched a mission to combat Al-Qaeda. To facilitate this mission, the department will require specific information.

As an official within Homeland Security, making recommendations and preparing advisories for government and law enforcement agencies in the US and abroad, I would find this information useful. I want to request information about the organizational structure of Al-Qaeda. I would wish to know who their leader is and how their leadership trickles down. This will help me to prepare intelligence products against this group.

I would also like to receive information on their attack strategies and tactics. Most of the reported and claimed Al-Qaeda attacks have been suicidal bombings (Jessee, 2006). This information should include interviews, human source operations, searches and physical surveillance. The collection of information is an important part of the intelligence cycle("Federal Bureau of Investigation - Directorate of Intelligence, The Intelligence Cycle", 2020). I would also require the analysis of previous attacks carried out by Al-Qaeda. Analysis in the intelligence cycle includes the conversion of raw information into intelligence.

I would also request for the information explaining Al-Qaeda's ability to carry out a future attack. With Al-Qaeda's main enemy being the United States, the main targets would be significant places in the US or United States embassies in other countries. Homeland security would need relevant information to prepare and prevent these possible attacks. I would request for the data on how Al-Qaeda differentiates from other terror groups, especially the Islamic ones. This information will be useful when making recommendations and preparing attack strategies against Al-Qaeda. For instance, Al-Qaeda targets far targets and groups compared to ISIS, which targets individuals such as journalists (Byman, 2020).
