The body of enforceable laws in society guides the people such that they can live as expected without infringing the rights of one another. The body of enforceable laws helps in offering procedures for addressing any disagreements that might arise between the people in the society. Laws play a major role in society for people to live together in harmony. The two key roles of laws in society are resolving disputes and establishing standards ( Andrias, 2016 ). Different groups of people live in society, and disputes will arise when a group of people is staying or working together. Laws provide guidelines to be observed when solving such disputes. They will enable a judge or any other person responsible for hearing from both sides to determine the offender and recommend the punishment regarding compensation of jail term. Laws establish standards related to acceptable behavior in society ( Barkan, 2015 ). Laws will enable people in society to understand and portray the expected behavior in society. The absence of laws would lead to illegitimate behaviors including stealing, injuries, conflicts, and destruction of property. It also leads to disorder in society as everyone will live and undertake various activities as per his/her will, which might infringe on the rights of other people. The constitution is the primary source of laws, as it contains acts, which are interpreted into laws. The constitution is the elementary law of the country as it is referred to as the supreme law. The statute is another primary source ( Calavita, 2016 ). It consists of the laws passed by the legislature and accented to by the prime minister of the president of the country. Administrative regulations serve as primary sources because they are enacted, enforced, and adjudicated by the administrative arms of government. Common law, which consists of the body of laws established by the court decisions made previously relating to specific cases, is also a good source ( Morauta, 2017 ). Public health policies are the stated objectives relating to healthcare services while laws are rules and regulations, which should be followed without compromise. Public healthcare policies reflect the objective of the health industry and government while laws are an institutional and legal framework, which helps in furthering the policies ( Gostin, & Wiley, 2016 ). Both public health policies and laws offer a guideline to healthcare practitioners, patients, and stakeholders when offering services to patients. Public health policy is dependent on laws, as they are the framework that helps in furthering the policies ( Waser, 2015 ).
