The term ‘leadership’ encompasses a plethora of meanings, depending on the perception of each individual. In its most rudimentary definition, leaders are individuals who help themselves and others to undertake the right things (What Is Leadership?, 2020). However, each person has a specific definition of leadership, which they often utilize as a benchmark in order to attain their ideal form of leadership practice. This particular essay entails the analysis of some personal facets of leadership, including leadership skills, styles, as well as characteristics to ascertain the strengths and weaknesses and thus capitalize on the strengths while also looking for ways to improve on the weaknesses. In order to undertake the analysis, leadership evaluation questionnaires were utilized, and they include the conceptual leadership questionnaire, the leadership traits questionnaire, the leadership style questionnaire, and the leadership skills questionnaire.

The Conceptual Leadership Questionnaire

The primary purpose of this questionnaire is to identify one’s view of leadership. Similarly, it also explores one’s perceptions of numerous aspects of leadership. To fill the questionnaire, one had to assume the role of a leader and thus fill the Likert scale questionnaire based on their perception of leadership.

In this particular evaluation tool, these were the results of my assessment (Scoring):

Trait emphasis- 15

Ability emphasis- 15

Skills emphasis- 15

Behavior emphasis- 15

Relationship emphasis- 15

Process emphasis-15

In this assessment, the emphasis that one gives to the different dimensions of leadership has implications on how one approaches the leadership domain. According to the results, I had obtained maximum scores in each assessment criterion, meaning that I do not favor nor emphasize one trait, but rather, I believe that a leader should have all these traits in order to be effectual in their leadership. While it is rare to come across a perfectly all-rounded leader, my perceptions of leadership are based on the ideals of a perfect leader who has all the requisite positive leadership traits as depicted by the results of the questionnaire.

Leadership Traits Questionnaire

The main purpose of this assessment tool is to gain an understanding of how traits are utilized in the assessment of leadership. Similarly, it demonstrates one’s leadership characteristics or attributes. The process of filing this questionnaire entailed the comparison of one’s results to five individuals; in this case, my friends. Filling the questionnaire entailed Likert scale questions, which finally compares and contrasts the results of each rater.

The results of this particular assessment tool depict that while there are some similarities in the way that I perceive myself and the way others perceive my traits, there are also significant differences in other domains. For instance, my self-ratings were higher than the average ratings of others on traits such as ‘articulate,’ ‘perceptive,’ ‘self-confident,’ ‘self-assured,’ ‘persistent,’ ‘dependable,’ ‘outgoing,’ ‘conscientious,’ and ‘diligent.’ Similarly, my self-ratings were lower than the average ratings of others on traits including ‘empathetic,’ ‘sensitive,’ and ‘trustworthy.’ My self-ratings on ‘determined’ and ‘friendly’ were the same as those of the average rating of others.

This particular tool represents a development opportunity for some of the traits in which I was rated lower than I anticipated. For instance, I have to improve on my self-confidence, self-assuredness, perception, persistence, dependability, outgoing, diligence, and conscientiousness. Similarly, I ought to be cognizant of the fact that I can leverage or maximize some of the traits that my raters think that I have plenty of and also those on which we had similar ratings, which were all consistently high.

Leadership Style Questionnaire

This is a type of questionnaire that is primarily aimed at ascertaining one’s style of leadership. Furthermore, it examines how one’s leadership styles relate to other leadership styles. To fill the questionnaire, it entailed answering Likert style questions, and scoring was done based on the selected choices.

The results of this assessment tool are as follows:

Authoritarian Leadership - 22

Democratic Leadership - 23

Laissez-Faire Leadership – 17

According to the scoring interpretation, I have high ranges of all styles of leadership, but democratic leadership is more dominant. Therefore, the amalgamation of my traits depicts that I have a more democratic type of leadership in contrast to the authoritarian and laissez-faire leadership as a result of a higher score on the democratic leadership style. This is among the most desired leadership style because it caters to the needs of the team as well as the organization because each member of the organization can relay their grievances and, thus, a stable and fair leadership style. Communication is paramount in this type of leadership (Root, 2020) because both laissez-faire and authoritarian leadership styles usually entail minimum communication. Therefore, my beliefs and traits are in line with a democratic leadership type, which is the type of leadership that I would like to practice because of the numerous advantages associated with the leadership process including the free flow of ideas, facilitation of trust and respect throughout the team, and efficient operations (Regoli, 2019).

Leadership Skills Questionnaire

The purpose of this assessment tool is to identify one’s leadership skills, and it tends to provide a profile of one’s leadership skills while also depicting one’s weaknesses and strengths. It also utilizes a Likert-type assessment to assess one’s inherent leadership skills, and scoring was done based on the selected choices.

The results of this assessment are as follows:

Administrative skill- 21

Interpersonal skill- 27

Conceptual skill- 30

This evaluation shows that my leadership skills are primarily conceptual in nature, meaning that I am innovative and can think of brilliant concepts and ideas (Conceptual Skills: Definition, Overview and Examples, 2019). As per the scoring interpretation, I have a very high range of conceptual leadership skills, while having a high range and moderate range skill in interpersonal skill and administrative skills, respectively. While they are not low, they depict that there is room for improvement in order to attain an all-rounded ideal skill in leadership.
