Senior villages are part of a movement that aims at empowering seniors to stay at home and avoid nursing home stays and hospital admissions. There has been an increasing level of interest in finding ways for the elderly to live in their most preferred setting and to build teams that would make it possible (Beswick, 2008). The villages help the elderly to age safely at home. However, for these villages to meet their purpose, it is vital to consider some critical aspects of the village life.
The most Critical Aspects of Village Life
The most vital aspects of “village life” that has the likelihood of shaping the future of the society in important ways include the economy more specifically the cost of providing health care (Ludden, 2010). There is the possibility that the increase in the cost of providing health care in nursing homes as compared to the cheap cost of getting the same care in villages would encourage more people to be in villages where they can get the same kind of care from a community nurse. Such villages also ensure that the elderly are able to support each other. Another critical aspect of village life that is likely to affect the society is the way the elderly live (Butler, 2015). More specifically, the help in the community often comes from able village members who engage themselves in community service. The villages often rely on a mix of volunteer and paid help do that the elderly can get the assistance that is similar to that which they would get at a retirement home without excluding their household.
