The last few months have seen hysteria rise in Massachusetts after rumors and talks of witchcraft started making rounds. This new development has seen a couple of women lose their lives at the gallows after being accused of practicing magic. Nonetheless, with the increasing panic, it is the high time media houses like Gibson’s People’s Paper to state the facts from rumors. Firstly, the condemnation and death of women like Bridget Bishop is a clear violation of human decency. Secondly, several religious fanatics are using this massacre as a campaign to enroot Christianity and specific denomination of Christianity. Thirdly, just as Christianity exits, a section of people in the Village of Salem is known to be practicing magic.

At the center of this panic and distraught is the small village of Salem. Folklore in the village is not only some of the scariest but also disturbing. Strange things happen in Salem, for instance, the forced marriages perpetrated by witch wives that force their husbands into swallowing live toads and frogs. Typically, such nerve-wracking stories are responsible for the increased investigations of all persons to determine whether they are heretic or voodoo priests or priestesses.

Despite the increased enforcement and prosecution of suspected witches, we pray for safety during these trying moments. Nonetheless, those accused and stand in trial with no one to fight for them; they remember martyrdom is the ultimate sacrifice. Additionally, hopefully, the Lord will grant our prayers regarding the smallpox epidemic. However, we hope and trust that better solutions will be found regarding the fear and hysteria that is plague most villages neighboring Salem
