Rewarding as a form of incentive for good performance may be based on four approaches; individual, organizational, team and hybrid. Individual approach focuses on giving incentive to individual members of the team, while in organizational approach, profits are shared among all members of all teams. Team or group approach incentivizes the team for performance, whereas hybrid, is a mix of individual and team approaches. My team is best suited for team or group reward system, for the reason that it enhances accuracy and cooperation which are instrumental in the attainment of our goals as a team.
There are a few challenges related to the various rewarding approaches in an organization. While individual rewards reduce teamwork and cooperation, team rewards usually lead to inequity in distribution of the rewards among members and social loafing where individual members of the team put in little effort. On the other hand, hybrid approach which is a mix of individual and team rewarding, may create a social dilemma since the members may focus only on their role as individuals.
