The Master's Tools will never dismantle the Master's House
This reading brings to light that feminism is about a whole lot more than the narrow parameters that are assumed by many. Feminism should be open and accepting of all parameters and not make people who do not fit in a certain criteria feel left out. It is vital that feminists are more tolerant of the many differences between women. Through this they can bring out and enhance each other’s strengths. If women could just see the importance of the interdependence of their differences, they could gain vast amounts of knowledge which could help effect change.
This reading made me feel angry initially about how that conference never seemed to take the opinions of the black women seriously, as they were clearly a last minute decision. It makes me feel like they were only invited so as to tick off some boxes. Also, this reading could apply to other issues, such as race, gender and so on. It made me wonder if I also ascribe to certain parameters on certain issues. How blinded a lot us may be regarding this and how this lack of knowledge affects other people. It saddens me that women can’t seem to come together for the greater good.

This reading touches on race, age and sexuality being embraced as a difference, what confuses me is that should this only apply to feminism. The reading appears to be on feminism and on women standing together against how the world perceives them. Yet, some issues doubly affect women, for instance women of color not only have to contend with the ignorance of men but also their race. I am wondering how women will help the other woman who has more prejudice relating to her ethnicity and other issues.
I can definitely relate this reading to issues in my daily life. There are certain groups or communities that require you to fit into a specific criterion otherwise you are not accepted. Even though there is so much you have to bring to the table it will not matter. It is important that society becomes more accepting of peoples differences.
Eloquent rage
One issue brought up in this book it is that it is important for every group or person to feel that they belong and are recognized. It becomes a problem when a group has to exclude another in order to be recognized. This tends to be the case in white supremacy. Also, fear is something that can be very dangerous. A fearful leader can make decisions that can harm others. Fear can also stump progress and change.
This book makes me understand how white supremacy uses fear to further oppress black people. The fear that black people could be their equals and even surpass them drives them to make decisions that are bad for black people. It angers me that fear is what stops people from asking questions, me inclusive. Sadly if questions are not asked then things are likely to remain the same. Some races will continue to assume supremacy of other races. A lot of people seek the clear path with straight forward answers but for change to occur people need to stop being afraid and think outside that path. Nothing particularly confuses me about this reading.
I have had my fair share of fear, there are so many decisions I make or do not make based on fear. I have seen leaders in some groups I am in make certain rash decisions out of fear that they may be overthrown. Fear is not entirely bad; it just needs to be channeled in the right path. I like how the writer has taken from all the fear she has fought with from childhood and used it to speak up. I aspire and would like to be more like that.
