There are several instances in which the mood of a person can be established by the setting and the surrounding of a person. This is true in the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell. The author establishes a mysterious and an intimidating mood with his unique setting and plot of the story. The way the author describes the house and the jungle establishes a mysterious and tense mood in the story. The description of the jungle as “Dense jungle came down the very edge of the cliffs. What perils that tangle of trees and underbrush might hold him did not concern Rainsford just then” (15). The description creates a feeling of mystery and tension. There are several areas in the story where the author describes the turn of events in the unknown areas thus bringing a mysterious and scary feeling of what could be waiting ahead as the story progresses.
