The escalating use of smartphones is regarded to be the first step in the process of the digital divide bridge. The continuous use of smartphones has led to the infrastructure boost needed to enhance wireless communication (Fallis & Spachos, 2018). Financial organizations and institutions have created applications that contain text-based inputs and also store credit or cash in the users’ smartphones. Any individual can believe that the most effective between smartphones and personal computers are smartphones. The case is so since a higher percentage of the population has smartphones- easily accessible.

The reasons for being the most effective include smartphones are much cheaper compared to personal computers. Secondly, smartphones are very convenient and portable at the same time as one can move from one point to the other with smartphones as compared to personal computers (Tamimi et al., 2018). Personal computers are less portable like the smallest laptop is still not convenient when compared to smartphones. Third, the smartphones have a battery life that lasts longer as compared to the personal computer. Hence, smartphones can be used in areas with inadequate power supply while personal computers cannot be used for long durations.

Additionally, personal computers need the use of skills to navigate. When compared to smartphones, no such skills are needed to operate. Skills become a barrier to those who cannot operate personal computers. Also, the updates and downloads in both the personal computers and the smartphones vary regarding the installation costs. Updates and downloads of personal computers tend to be more expensive than smartphones’. In operating the smartphones, there is no requirement such as technical support as they are easy to handle as compared to personal computers.

According to the above argument, smartphones are considered to be the most effective. Smartphones are not a burden in terms of finance when purchasing one. The case leads to many people having smartphones as opposed to personal computers. As discussed, smartphones are portable and easy to use as they need no skills. Hence, the digital divide can be bridged through smartphones and not personal computers to a large extent.
