The National Crime Statistics Exchange (NCS-X) is such an important project aimed at effectively increasing the number of agencies that are tasked with the role of the reporting data to the FBI’s managed National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). The reporting of the data is important in the national representation of the created crime estimates. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in partnership with the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) has spearheaded the program (Bierie, 2015). BJS should support the success of the NCS-X by offering much support to the law enforcement community. The program has been carefully designed to ensure effective implementation. It is achieved by utilizing a process with a minimal burden for the extraction and collection of incident-based data from the existing management record systems’ data. It is as well important to note that the program is aimed at effectively providing funding and technical assistance to some law enforcement agencies selected for the program.

It has been a challenge for the Federal Bureau of Investigation to effectively provide an expansive and exhaustive view of the country’s crime statistics. The challenge is mainly caused by the fact that most states and agencies in the United States tend to submit the required data based on different reporting models. Although most agencies and states are known for the provision of quite comprehensive reporting of crimes in their jurisdictions through the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), the majority of the US agencies do not provide quite a comprehensive summary of the crime data (Bierie, 2015). Therefore, the disparity between the standards and the system heavily impacts public safety of the community in various ways.

More specifically, this disparity tends to lead to quite vague crime analyses as well as inefficient reporting of the crimes in the country. The program, therefore, provides a quite proactive approach to the problem through partnerships with the country’s standard governing bodies as well as the customers in the country to actively participate in an initiative that will ensure comprehensive reporting by the agencies. Moreover , most of these reporting systems are known for their overlapping aggregate statistical representation of the US crime trends particularly for the presentation of the NIBRS data (Bierie, 2015).

Additionally, there is a need for the national improvement of the national crime reporting in the country as well the in the gathering of the statistics for the representation of the national crime trends. The program is essential in increasing the number of reporting agencies especially on the incident-based crime statistics to the country’s Federal Bureau of Investigations. There is a difference in the way each security system and their agencies collect information. However, only NIBRS is known for its in-depth system in reporting of security data. This is quite contrary to most public safety agencies that only offer summary data in their data. The disparity between the security reporting systems as well as inadequate NIBRS contributors for statistical relevance as a national model, the program was created as an expansion of the NIBRS’ goal of data collection (Strom & Smith, 2017). The program realizes this goal through the inclusion of multiple law enforcement agencies to effectively provide an excellent representation based on the location and size of the agencies involved. The expanded participation of the NIBRS through the combination of the data provided by the NIBRS agencies is essential in ensuring the needed accuracy in the reporting of the security data.

The progressive initiative and provision of the necessary support to effectively move the selected agencies to the NIBRS must be promoted for the good of the security agencies in the country. The NCS-X initiative deeply involves the national organizations to improve the efficiencies in the reporting products not only in the current system but for the future systems as well (Strom & Smith, 2017). It is as well important to note that the initiative offers a simple standardized system that easily reallocates the development resources that may not be currently dedicated for the continued dedication to ensuring streamlined and advanced relevant reporting agencies and systems. Therefore, the initiative ensures streamlining and advancing of the relevant security reporting agencies and systems that will then lead to long-lasting returns on the investments made by the agencies (Strom & Smith, 2017). More importantly, the successful implementation of the initiative will ensure the provision of a quite detailed and accurate statistical representation of the criminal nature to the law enforcement agencies in the United States. This will as well ensure effective planning of the initiatives at different levels that cannot be achieved currently through the existing programs for summary data collection.

In conclusion, the NCS-X initiative is essential in the generation of the nationally-representative and incident based-data on crimes reported to the law enforcement agencies. This will greatly leverage the existing security data that is compiled by the National Incident-Based Reporting System through the Federal Bureau of Investigations in the United States of America. Its full implementation will ensure the improvement of the ability of the nation to not only monitor but to prevent and respond to the crimes in a properly detailed, timely and accurate crime national measures of the crime incidents in the country.
