The nursing course and resultant field experience have prepared us to be ready for the fulfillment of the course by bridging the gap between theory and practice. The course builds a good foundation for the FNP program. The first achievement was learning how to be a patient's advocate. This was done by building their trust during the initial encounters. Protecting their rights by respecting and honoring their cultural inclinations was one of the ways to build trust. The next step was learning to provide an avenue for prevention of illness through education. This was covered during week 6 and 7 as the course outlined how to make a difference by making different decisions ( American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2011). The unit also covered the effects of ethical treatment and the difference it can make in building healthy working relationships.
The units covering epidemiology helped in equipping us with the tools needed to develop community out reach and treatment programs. The statistics and research programs assisted in developing mechanisms to apply scientific findings that better the operations. It gave our practice some accountability as we had a reference point to build on. It also simplified the assessment and encouraged self appraisal. The epidemiology program was most beneficial in bringing out the preventative measures because the causes were more clear ( Hamric et al., 2013).

The outcome #2 was also beneficial in channelling scholarship into practice. This was combined with the outcome that encouraged building of new practices that would improve service delivery and improve effeciency. The most important thing I learned was the importance of collaboration between different health care providers. For example, the diagnostic department needed samples that would be used to screen for illness. The results would go back to the attending physician who would diagnose the illness and prescribe treatment. The nurse is the bridge that facilitates all these steps and ensures that the transition is smooth. Finally, I was able to learn that the overall health is affected deeply by the mental and psychological state (NCBI, 2014). All this is vital in helping one to decide on the aspects of the MSN course that mean the most.
