The Obama administration had an approach to emergency management that differed from other administrations and focused on four pillars which included effectiveness, efficiency, people and culture and, economic growth. During the Obama administration, the most devastating disaster was Hurricane Sandy that smashed the Atlantic coastline in 2012. During the disaster, the Obama administration deployed more federal agents to the background of the scene than in the previous administrations (The WhiteHouse, 2016).

The agents also were instructed to provide information on the storms paths and the need for evacuation.
