The Obama administration had an approach to emergency management that differed from other administrations and focused on four pillars which included effectiveness, efficiency, people and culture and, economic growth. The strategy that the Obama administration deployed aimed to deliver smarter, better, and faster services to citizens. Furthermore, the approach aimed at ascertaining efficiency by ensuring the derivation of the maximum value of federal spending (FEMA, 2017). Besides the Obama Administration targeted to deploy a world-class taskforce that nurtured a culture of excellence. Through the federal emergency management agency, the Obama administration has improved the nation’s ability to respond and recover from a disaster by continually engaging the citizens in relevant issues that require their attention to expand resilience within communities. Besides the Obama administration employed the strategy to limit the impact the next disaster may inflict.
The federal government through the federal agencies have taken initiatives to recover from future disasters by helping to build the capacity of the public and private sector, as well as the state and local authorities to manage emergencies (Katz, Attal-Juncqua & Fischer, 2017). The initiatives taken by the Obama Administration have been a success. The previous administrations did not deploy adequate personnel to areas affected by the disasters. However, the Obama administrations have been keener to use the right crew to handle emergency cases beforehand. During the Obama administration, the most devastating disaster was Hurricane Sandy that smashed the Atlantic coastline in 2012. During the disaster, the Obama administration deployed more federal agents to the background of the scene than in the previous administrations (The WhiteHouse, 2016).

Meanwhile, the agents were briefed to provide adequate information regarding the disaster and initiate emergency evacuation services. The agents also were instructed to provide information on the storms paths and the need for evacuation. Also, the Obama administration had shown improvement to the emergency management by sourcing and deploying the relevant and experienced personnel to areas likely to suffer disasters.
