The US is always viewed as a good representation of democracy. When it comes to elections, the citizens have the freedom to elect representatives of their choice from the national to the local government. The citizens have the freedom to choose their favorite candidate, but it is clear that only the popular parties are the ones that have their candidates get into the senate and the national government (Brewer, 2020). This indicates that the US political system has stopped being democratic because it does not give exposure to other small parties, but the focus is on the two popular parties, the Democrats and Republicans.

The political system in the US is a representation of big parties: The Republicans and the Democrats, and overlooking any other small party. It is from the two popular parties that the citizens chose their candidates. This is a clear indication the US politic is based on the two political parties, and the US citizens vote to depend on their interests that are reflected by the representatives of the parties (Donovan et al., 2012). The elections are more of the Republican and the Democrats parties, and this tends to turn the US political system into a two-party kind of system, where the two popular parties are dominating to the extent that any other political party is considered irrelevant. This has gone to the extent that some states regulate state parties, indicating that only Democrats and Republican parties should participate in the elections. (Thomassen, 2020). For the system to be considered democratic, there is a need to develop a multi-party system where more than two parties are represented in the public offices.

This will give the minority parties a chance to be represented at both local and national levels, and Americans will also have a taste of the multi-party system. This will bring more people to participate in the elections.
