In interpersonal communication, individuals are involved in an exchange of information, meanings, and feelings verbally and non-verbally. Interpersonal communication has been broken down into various elements. Communicators are the people involved in an exchange while the message covers the speech, expressions, gestures, body language and tone of voice among other aspects. The channel refers to the means through the message is transferred from one individual to another, which includes vision and speech. Words should always be used appropriately depending on the context. For instance, you do not expect a person to utter words of insults at the late, during a funeral. Sensitive words, using appropriate expressions and gestures helps people open up and communicate freely without fear.

In a situation where a friend makes a racist comment, for instance, the people negatively affected by his remarks would quickly develop negative emotions. You should point out to your friend his mistake and let him know that every human is equal to the other. He should be aware that those affected by his comment may even file a case against him in court. As your friend, you should encourage to avoid racist comments. Any word uttered by any individual in any given context has a power of its own. The words we use have the ability to cause harm, hurt people, humiliate, help, hinder grief or humble others. Great speakers have the power in their words to influence and inspire thousands or millions of people. At the same time, words have the power to cause deaths of thousands of individuals. Someone may speak out something with no intentions of hurting the feelings of others. Putting his words in a proper manner may help in such situations.
