A professional code of conduct refers to a set of principles that define how the employee of a company should act as they interact and perform their tasks. Professional code of conduct ensures that the organization avoids major scandals related to employee’s ethical misconduct by promoting compliance at all levels. It also markets the company to the public by stating what the company stands for and their commitment to serve. As an advocate, my law firm will adhere to following as outlined in the code of conduct;
Inclusivity: To welcome and support clients from all identities and backgrounds.
Respect for all: will guide me to tame my frustrations in the office.
No discrimination: serve all clients regardless of color, social status, and educational background among others.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
Do not harass: Aim to resolve disagreements amicably.
Convert differences into strengths: as I will be interacting with my clients, I would ensure the best recommendations towards their improvements are realized by considering our different opinions and agreeing on a common point of view.
Divine Command Theory
Divine command theory is the perspective that moral obligations should reflect our obedience to God and what He expects from us (Quinn, 2013). The second code propagates respect for all. Being respectful to others is among God’s command to us and it encompasses the need to observe humility in the office rather than arrogance and aggressiveness. This code will thus incorporate the divine command theory.
Natural Law Theory
Natural law theory refers to a legal theory recognizing both morality and law and expects us to make our actions basing on both the nature of God’s creation of reality and the reality of mankind (Westerman, 2014). In of this, the first, second, third, and fourth codes relate to this theory. The codes call one to be mindful of their actions by being considerate, gentle, fair and respectful. With this mind, my staff and I will execute our services basing on God’s reality and at observing work ethics.
Cultural Relativism theory
Cultural relativism theory is the idea that no culture can be termed as being superior to the other in terms of morality, law, and politics (Tilley, 2007). With this in mind, inclusivity and no discrimination codes of conduct will allow my firm to embrace the diverse cultures of our clients with an open mind and positivity. The codes will ensure that no one will be judged, looked down upon or even discriminated in any way.
Conclusion
In a nutshell, every firm should have a well-written code of conduct that elucidates an organization’s mission, set values and principles, connection them with the set standards of professional conduct. The professional Code of Conduct ensures full compliance to an organization set standards. It also mitigates any federal and finical risk that may occur as a result of ethical misconduct. Ethical theories can act as a guide in generating a code of conduct that is inclusive and non-discriminative in ways.
