A strong emotional attachment and loyalty to a charismatic leader can have both beneficial and detrimental effects on followers. Explain both types of effective followers.
Tareq, Khazaei and Khazaei (2017) noted that individuals associated with a charismatic leader are likely to exhibit optimistic emotion when near the leader, and follow the direction of the leader’s vision. In this case, a charismatic leader is thought of having an emotional impact on followers thereby soliciting follower inclination with his or her mission and vision. On the other hand, some followers are considered loyal control for emotional attachment. Zehir, Muceldili, and Altindag (2014) explored the relationship between charismatic leadership and organizational citizenship behavior. They found that when a leader motivates followers, they are likely to follow his or her direction. Charismatic leadership involves projection of a positive mindset, and focuses on the leader’s personal attributes. Thus, a leader can solicit emotional attachment on one hand, while on the other, he or she has loyal follower. In this case, the approach that a charismatic leader uses determines the type of followers.

Explain the importance of effective communications skills for charismatic and transformational leaders.
Effective communication skills play a vital role in promoting effectiveness in whatever style of leadership. Fabbi (2013) noted that for a charismatic leader, effective communication increases the emotional appeal of the leader’s message in turn acquiring follower commitment to his or her vision. Furthermore, the use of enhanced verbal and non-verbal techniques makes it easy for a charismatic leader to engage his or her followers. For a transformational leader, effective communication helps clarify the goals or set targets for the organization as well as for the followers. A transformational leader seeks to bring about positive change in an organization (Cohrs, 2017. However, this cannot be achieved if there is no effective communication. Thus, there is a need for one to ensure that his or her message is projected clearly thereby making followers understand whatever is expected of them. Effective communication in a transformational leader is key towards task clarification, which is essential when focusing on company growth and development (Cohrs, 2017).
Servant leadership emphasizes being able to serve and lead. In your opinion, is this contradictory or doable? Explain!
A servant leader focuses on serving his or her followers. Ingram (2016) explained that servant leadership is from within the leader, and is projected through one’s principles, beliefs, and values. In this case, the servant leader’s motivation and behavior reflect this individual’s beliefs, values, and principles. With this understanding, it becomes clear that through service to others, the servant leader is able to achieve organizational targets. Through serving, the servant leader is able to lead as followers are inclined to follow and adopt the leader’s views towards, for instance, in his or her mission and vision for the organization. Ingram (2016) noted that the servant leader is able to solicit a reaction from followers, which is inclined towards meeting organizational goals. Thus, the leader leverages his or her servant role to acquire loyalty and commitment in followers.
Do you believe everyone has the same capability to become a servant leader, or are some people by their nature more inclined to be servant leaders? Explain!
Arguably, everyone has the same capability to become a servant leader. Ingram (2016) explained that one particular aspect associated with servant leadership is that it recognizes awareness as a major mechanism for development in leadership. In this regard, the development of any leader is likely to emphasize strengthening of one’s qualities, alongside awareness. Ingram (2016) noted that the sign of an effective servant leader is whether or not he or she becomes wiser, healthier, and freer. Thus, these are the metrics upon which every leader’s effectiveness can be judged. An important thing about leadership is that leaders must understand that leading is, in itself, an act of serving followers as opposed to directing them. Therefore, basing on this argument, any leader can become a servant leader.
Describe a charismatic or transformational leader you have known.
Barrack Obama qualifies as a charismatic leader due to his way of rule. For instance, in order to have Congress pass the ACA into a law, he must have had an emotional appeal on members of Congress regardless of what party one belonged to. Access to healthcare has been a major issue in the United States. Therefore, he might have leveraged the benefit that the ACA would bring as pertains to making healthcare affordable and accessible for the poor. Comparatively, Donald Trump is more of a transformational leader. Despite his lack of success in pushing for the repeal of the ACA, the attempt, in itself, demonstrates his desire to bring about change in how the law is currently functioning.
