Question 1

I had vast reasons to study psychology ranging from personal interests to career prospects. I would say psychology has always been my calling because I have always found psychology to be a fascinating area of study since middle school. This is because I could always imagine being able to understand how people feel, act, and even think. Besides, psychology can allow me to understand what shapes our personality and how we change throughout life.

Studying psychology will help me grow as a person, making it easier to help myself and even others around me and need my help. Many people need the professional advice of a psychologist. However, since making an appointment with one is expensive, they cannot afford and hence remain helpless. Me growing up, I witnessed this a lot and, therefore, decided that once I get my degree, I want to be there and offer my services at a lower rate to the low-income people who cannot afford a psychologist.

Question 2

Besides my degree helping in my personal growth, it will also open doors for a vast range of career opportunities. One significant advantage I will have is the enormous variety of career paths since it fits all fields. As appeals to my interest, I can specialize in any of the sectors that I want. These include; sport, human factors, forensics, clinical, health, and industrial-organizational types of psychology. Moreover, my degree will enable me to learn myself and the people that I interact with. For instance, it will grant me the opportunity to learn why I experience certain emotions, why people act the way they do, among other ways of understanding people. As a result, I see it as part of my calling because it will enable me to help the less fortunate and also the fulfilment that would come from this.

The demand for psychologists is increasing with an increase in trained professionals. As a result, there is an increased need for psychological services in hospitals, social services agencies, schools, and substance abuse treatment centers. Moreover, my degree will enable me to make a difference in people's lives. While this can be stressful at times, the result is very fulfilling for me since helping people is my calling. For instance, as a psychologist with a degree, I would devote my time and energy to help people realize their full potential, increase their well-being, and overcome adversity.

Question 3

First, post-graduation, I would focus on family. I would love to have a family of my own with kids who I can share my happiness and career fulfilment with. I would also invest in taking care of my parents and siblings as they mean the world to me. Being a student, I have not always had enough time to take care of and spend time with my loved ones. Therefore, I see this as an opportunity to be with them finally.

After graduation, I would go to grad school to continue pursuing my dreams in the future. This is mainly to advance my skills as a psychologist and also to advance in my education and earning power. Besides, grad school will open more opportunities for me to earn better, service more people, and even get more access to grants, scholarships, and even grad jobs.

Question 4

From the time we are born to the time we go to meet our God in heaven, we have been taught to be responsible in whatever we do. As a psychologist, therefore, I have learned that I have to take care of my clients and be accountable for each of my actions. Besides, I should always avail myself whenever my client needs me. This is because I have a responsibility both to myself and to God. For instance, in the Bible, Joshua 1:9, the Lord reminds us that he has commanded us to be courageous and strong and that we should neither be terrified nor discouraged because he will be with us wherever we go.

Besides, psychology and faith share a common interest in the purpose and the nature of human beings. Some people may walk the same path but see different things. Some people see things in the way of faith, while others see things from a perspective of psychology. These two fields can, therefore, integrate to know the truth regarding human nature. Together, the two fields can see things from a different view from how they would have noticed by themselves.

Question 5

My experience at Le Tourneau has been amazing. Some of the things I appreciate is the internship that the University has allowed us to do to put into practice what we have learned in class. This has enabled me to develop my skills in psychology and also prepare for the future. The school of psychology and counseling at Le Tourneau University provides several opportunities for the students by linking them to local organizations across the country and even globally.

Nonetheless, I appreciate the foundation of the University, which is based on the Christian faith. This is because this foundation enables the school of psychology and counseling to instill Christian values in their students. For instance, the University maximizes instilling compassionate care, social justice, and human dignity. This is to aid in the creation of a healthier community. Therefore, I would advise future students of the University to take advantage of every opportunity offered at the University and take them seriously.
