The Committee on Public Information (CPI), also referred to as the Creel Committee, was formed in 1971 by President Woodrow Wilson and a journalist by the name George Creel. The main aim of the committee was to mobilize the US population into supporting President Woodrow’s plan to enter the war in Europe. Since he had run for re-election in the previous year on the slogan that he kept the American people out of the war, strong public opinion mattered, and the committee helped him to gain it.
The song ‘Over there’ was used to persuade large masses of the youth to sign up for the American army and participate in the war in Europe. The song filled the young men with enthusiasm for the war. Additionally, the entire American civil society dedicated itself to the cause of the government to go to war. The strong influence the song had over the American masses fits it in the description of propaganda material.

I see President Woodrow as a smart and resourceful person. He wanted to be president of a country that did not want to participate in the war, but at the same time, he wanted to go to war. The President is smart because he sold his idea to the people and made the Americans own that participating in the war would be good for the Country. I also feel that for one to be a good leader, one must be able to express him/herself in a manner bound to solicit support from your people. I finally feel that the media is a potent weapon that can either make or break a republic.
