Running head: FAILURE TO DELEGATE

Failure to Delegate

Delegation is an important role and part of leadership. Leaders often assign duties to their team members and demand expected results to be achieved. However, they experience frustrations if the desired outcomes are not obtained. Leaders tend to point fingers at delegates if tasks are not done as required.

The failure to delegate thoroughly and properly is of particular to a group leader because if the expected results are not achieved, the leader will be prompted to identity the areas of weakness and address them. For instance, the group leader may gain understanding of the desired results were not achieved. In most instances, delegates may feel that they are not supported; they are controlled, unprepared, or overwhelmed. In such cases, it is easy for the leader to blame the delegate for not producing the expected results. With such shortcomings, the leader can gain realization that dumping responsibility on delegates without support may lead to poor outcomes. Most times, the problem arises from the way the task is projected from the start. At times, the leader delegate duties and fails to follow through with the task, which affects the outcome.

A leader may become overwhelmed such that it may affect negatively on their health and performance. Furthermore, failure to delegate duties thoroughly affects the credibility of a leader.
