The two texts focus on the relationship between male and female genders and the manner they treat one another. In the process of developing friendships between male and female genders, one considers various factors, which will determine if he/she will continue with the friendship or drop at an earlier. One of the texts is about men and women to avoid in the society. For example, the men to avoid portray certain characteristics including abusive, Smotherer, improver, man-child, and the player ( Five Men to Avoid , 1998) . Smotherer is a possessive man who tracks his friend without giving a breathing space, as he wants to know her footsteps throughout the day. An abuser is a man who uses immoral words and abusive language while communicating or interacting with his friends, which might lead to frequent conflicts. Such a person might have been exposed to abusive life or conflicts since his childhood. An improver is a man who likes making corrections by referring to what should be improved by his friend. Man-child depends on his parents for everything instead of struggling to maintain himself. A player is a man who makes a relationship with many women, as he is unfaithful. Women to avoid are sergeant major, soap opera, dream queen, rebound, and gold digger.
Reading this text has impacted my personal development in different ways. Considering the characteristics of men to avoid, I have learned how I should present myself such that I can interact with friends without being avoided. Men should avoid abusive language and behavior while working or living with friends, struggle to have a source of income instead of depending on parents and being faithful in a relationship ( Five Men to Avoid , 1998) . Additionally, allowing a friend to have the freedom to interact, and a friend should improve reasonably communicating what. Personally, I consider all the five characteristics while developing a friendship at home, workplace, learning institution or any other place in the society. Learning such characteristics has enabled me to live peacefully with friends without being avoided.

The second text is about the treatment offered to the minority groups in different countries due to racisms and color differences. The text has focused on the treatment of African Americans by the whites in America as a foreign country. Some of the Africans who have been recruited to work for the US military are being used to mistreat the fellow Africans. An example of a woman cop is used under the instructions from her seniors to mistreat Bigfoot and other Africans to the extent that he was killed. Bigfoot was later killed after going through various challenges while in custody. The Black does not have any powers in America as they are seen to be insignificant and without the necessary knowledge and skills to assume leadership positions in various departments ( Madhubuti, 1990 ). Despite the worldwide known mistreatment faced by the Black in America, the whites still do not accept that America is a racist country. Black men are considered the first suspects in case of any criminal activity, as they are oppressed, and they do not have any powers to argue or protect themselves. The history of whiteman-blackman relationship is related to war leading to the fear among the white against the black men.
Reading this text has influenced my personal development in different ways. While living in a multiracial society, I am focused to struggle and ensure that people live together and enjoy their rights irrespective of their races. Such groups of people should be allowed to enjoy their rights of freedom, interaction, and expression in the society especially in the current digital and advanced society ( Madhubuti, 1990 ). It is difficult to adjust and take such stand to change something that has developed for many decades, but such a historically black men treatment motivates me to fight for their rights.
