In a healthcare system, nurses have specific tasks that they have to perform towards patient's care. The primary role of a nurse in health is to advocate for the patient's well-being. Besides, patient's care is the priority of nurses in a healthcare system. Therefore, the role of a nurse is to advocate for the patient's interests and preserve the patient's dignity throughout the treatment period. During the treatment period, patients have the right to consult with the nurses on the type of care they should be given (Smolowitz et al., 2015). A patient can either accept or reject the standard of care a nurse is providing; thus, it is a responsibility of the nurse to provide the best care to the patient.

Further, the essentials of patient's care role include decision making and collaboration with other health professionals to give the patient's the best treatment. In many circumstances, patients are often unable to make decisions on the type of care they should be given due to serious illness. However, nurses are charged with the responsibilities of determining the patient's problem and decision making on the type of treatment the patient should be given. Besides, nurses have to provide the patient's laboratory report to the doctor for a final decision and prescription for the patient's treatment.
