In this specific scenario, data collected indicating that free school meals contribute up to a third of many students’ caloric intake in one day, and further data from research revealing that millions of students that don't have the means to purchase the food receive free food in schools offered by the Department of Education are at risk of food insecurity contributed to the identification of the problem (Washington University, 2020). The data and statistics are also used by health policy experts in influencing the government agencies responsible for making the policy changes to make the decisions in favor of the proposals by health advocates. According to NICHO (2018), data will also play a significant role in the evaluation of the success of the legislation once it is implemented. Data will be collected to conduct a cost and benefit analysis of the intervention. In conclusion, data plays a vital role in the identification of the problem of food insecurity in schools. Data also plays an important role in influencing the legislation seeking offering of food to students in case of an emergency closure. Data will also be useful in the evaluation of the impact of the legislation.
