Among the professions in the healthcare sector that have been gaining increased popularity and importance is family nursing practice. The career has gained importance due to the benefits it presents. Family nurse practitioners having been adequately trained help to improve the quality of health care accorded to patients (Jennings et al., 2016). According to Jennings et al. (2016), decreased cost of clinical care is also anticipated when family nurse practitioners are involved. Shorter admission stays, and reduced mortality rates are also amongst the benefits that are reaped when family nurse practitioners are engaged.

Jerry John identification card number 35534792 is a nursing practitioner working in Oklahoma state. I happened to interview him on 23 rd January 2020 and got to learn various matters concerning his practice as a family nurse practitioner. John has been engaged in nursing practice from 2015 and his experience has increased his competency in his job. He works in a primary healthcare clinic in the state of Oklahoma. Being a family nurse practitioner, he offers healthcare services to persons of all ages. He, however, states that he has noted that most of his patients are infants and the elderly. He is involved in various aspects of patient care, such as diagnosis, treatments, and consultations. Part of the job description for family nurse practitioners is performing a physical examination, ordering labs, keeping patients' health records, and writing prescriptions (AONP, n.d.). At times, John executes his duties independently, but on other occasions, he is part of a professional team. Family nurse practitioners may assist physicians in making the right treatment decisions for patients. He is also involved in patient education, such as various preventative care methods. The number of patients that he sees in a day range from 20 to 25.

To be eligible to practice as a family nurse practitioner in the state of Oklahoma, one must acquire a Master of Science degree in Nursing program from an accredited educational program ("Family Nurse Practitioner Role & Scope | NurseJournal.org", n.d.) . A license to practice must also be obtained from Oklahoma State. The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center offers grants certification as a nurse practitioner. Advanced nurse practitioners, through vast knowledge, data analysis skills, and research-based interventions, can provide healthcare services to patients (Oklahoma Scope of Practices Policy: States Profile, 2018). The state of Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act (NPA) allows nurse practitioners to offer an array of healthcare services without the engagement of physicians. They may make a prescription under the guidance of physicians through a joint agreement. A prescription involving substances III-V, however, needs the supervision of a physician and consent from the administration ("Family Nurse Practitioner Role & Scope | NurseJournal.org", n.d.) . The Association of Oklahoma Nurse Practitioners offers a networking opportunity to nurse practitioners to help them offer high standard primary health care services (AONP, n.d.).

I also got to interview Jerry John on different questions about nursing practice. His responses were varied and quite informed. His definition of a nurse practitioner fits that of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Nurse practitioners are individuals involved in the management of the health of persons and disease prevention. They do this through appropriate licensure and following autonomous clinical procedures. John Jerry cites excellent academic performance and dedication to offering high standard healthcare services to all as the reason for being the best applicant for nurse practitioner school. Jerry John cites two reasons for wanting to become a nurse practitioner. Firstly, the ability to offer primary and preventive care to patients and secondly the desire to learn more and acquire increased autonomy in providing healthcare services to patients.

Jerry stated that his desire to offer healthcare services to persons of all ages drove him to chose his practice within the field of family healthcare. He indicated his encounter with patients of different ages, infants, children, and the geriatrics as having fueled him to practice in family health to offer them holistic care. In five years to come, Jerry envisions himself working in a management position within the family health practice. He believes his desire to become of the best family nurse practitioners will enable him to achieve this dream. Jerry stated that his philosophical system of care is pegged on offering individualized care to all patients regardless of one's race, ethnicity, religion, the nation of origin, gender and gender expression, sexual orientation, physical disability, and socioeconomic status.

Jerry stated that he became interested in family nursing practice due to his desire to make an impact on people's lives. Family nursing practice would accord him this challenging opportunity since he is involved in offering services to persons of all ages. Jerry cited a scenario in which he had offered the best health care possible to one of the patients. However, the patient ended up reporting him to his seniors as having been incompetent in his job, and this stressed him. He stated that his dedication to offering quality health care services to his patients as having helped him to overcome the stress and remain focused on providing quality care to other patients. According to Jerry John, healthcare reforms involve the accordance of quality and affordable healthcare services to all without any discrimination. All persons need to be accorded quality healthcare, thus the need for an all-inclusive insurance program.

Obesity is cited as one of the health issues distressing the globe and threatens to undermine the efforts being made for a healthier population. Obesity predisposes individuals to several other diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension (James, 2018). Jerry stated that he is enthusiastic about this issue. He believes that there is a role that we can all play to help decrease the growing numbers of obese patients. To solve the problem, Jerry stated that he would use his position as a family nurse practitioner to offer educative programs to individuals on ways of preventing obesity. Jerry believes that he needs to acquire the influence to impact people's lives by providing high standard healthcare services to the patients.
