From the global health teams that are explained in literature, this paper focuses on the teaching role of an international or global health nurse. The nurse plays a number of roles including consultation, clinical nursing practices, disease prevention, follow-up treatment, and patient education. The nurse, however, mainly engages in patient education, which focuses on equipping patients and members of the global communities with knowledge on disease prevention and management (Fooladi, 2015). Thus the specific job title for the nurse would be International Patient Health Education Nurse. The international health nurse addresses the key health problems facing the international community, including such diseases as malaria, diabetes, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS. Moreover, the nurses focus on addressing health problems facing expectant women, children, infants, adults, adolescents, and the elderly, particularly the vulnerable groups, which include refugees, the poor, the homeless, and displaced persons (Fooladi, 2015). The teaching role requires the nurse to constantly communicate with patients in healthcare settings, the community, as well as other health professionals responsible for facilitating disease management and prevention through medical interventions, research, and community activities globally.

International health nurses are required to possess a graduate preparation in public health or nursing as well as a license for practice. Similarly, the International Patient Health Education Nurse, would be required to have a nurse licensure and a degree in public health, to enable the nurse to execute his or duties effectively, by possessing sufficient knowledge and understanding of the key health problems affecting the global communities. The teaching role is important to the global health team, since it plays an essential role in enhancing disease management and prevention practices in communities as well as reducing health disparities, thus promoting better health outcomes for the global population, which further resonate with the main goals and objectives of the international health teams (Chen, Mullins, Novak & Thomas, 2016). The teaching role achieves the objectives of the global team through health promotion strategies that involve providing patients with essential health education and information regarding disease management and prevention.
