Risk analysis is the method of prioritizing risks based on the probability of the risk occurring and the impact it would have on the project, ( Hulett, 2016) . In qualitative risk analysis , a relative or descriptive scale to measure the probability of occurrence is used .
In one of the projects done at the workplace, using a scale of "Low, Medium, High" to indicate the likelihood of a risk event occurring when employees consumed contaminated food.

The Risk Assessment Matrix (RAM)
A Risk Assessment Matrix (RAM) is a tool used to identify risks needed while developing a risk response to the food contamination project.
Defining the rating scales for likelihood and impact is the first step in developing a RAM, ( DeVellis, 2016) . Here's an example of the Likelihood Scale definition for one of the projects aiming to prevent food contamination in the workplace ;
Rating | Likelihood | Description |
1 |
Very Low | Food contamination is highly unlikely to occur except on infrequent occasions |
2 |
Low | Food contamination is most likely not to occur now that in the past projects it did not occur |
3 |
Moderate | There is a possibility of food contamination to occur |
4 |
High | Likely to occur given that it has happened among young adolescents in the past project |
5 |
Very High | Highly likely to occur now that it has happened under the same circumstances of the proposed project |
Categorizing risks levels;
A risk-response plan for the risks identified
Avoidance of the risk by putting all the efforts to eliminate its cause and thus, reducing the threat.
There will be mitigation of the risks especially those that cannot be eliminated like drinking untreated water and this will reduce their impact.
At times, to prevent occurrences of food contamination, there was additional work as well as changing project scope to make sure the opportunity occurs
There is a need to i ncrease the probability and positive impact of risk events on food contamination
Membership acceptance is highly encouraged in case the risk occurs. Through this, additional resources are put in place to deal with the outbreak of disease resulting from food contamination.
Up to date information was given to program managers especially at times when elements of food contamination which cannot be monitored and handled by the project are escalated to the upper levels of management.
