The society plays a significant role in childbearing, child naming and child development. The child's social environment including social relationships has a profound impact on the child's development and what the child turns to be in the future. For example, inclusive social environments have proven to encourage childbearing and enhance the capacity of the parents to care for their kids as well as encourage child's development and socialization.

Social institutions include facilities for education, health care, recreation spaces, and employment. The nature of the social institutions greatly influences the frequency and determination of childbearing. For example, the presence of educational facilities, and healthcare influences childbearing with regards to child spacing as well as the childcare. Parents who are employed can take care of their children more comfortably as compared to those who lack employment. The availability of quality educational facilities is associated with improving child development. Children who fail to attend early childhood education are more likely to suffer maltreatment and become antisocial in life.
