Part 1.
The debate over the role of women in the military raised several questions. Some of the questions are, how many combat positions are there in the military? , will women still be barred from some units? , will the standards be different for men and women? , aren’t women more or less serving in combat already? And will women now have greater opportunities to advance in the military? I agree with the raised questions since they are straight forward. Feminists and militarists ask these questions at the aim of wanting to know the position of women in the military. The people subjected to these questions are put in a situation where once they answer they will clarify the situations. Once answered, every individual interested in the subject will be enlightened.
Part 2
I initially had a different perception on the military but after talking to a veteran I used to know, it all changed. The woman shared her experience in the military and often described how the army veneered uniformity while it offered the complete opposite. In the article, Kristina McCauley’s story confirmed the claims. Therefore it is accurate to suggest that the military does not treat women quite fairly as compared to men. I empathized with both women since it is clear that they did not feel like they belonged in the military because of their gender. In my opinion, after reading the article and learning how biased the military system is, I would advocate that reformation programs be introduced. The programs should be able to protect women or any other groups that do not feel like they fit in the military systems. McCauley’s situation from the article made me angry because she had to try out a new field to find a place where she belongs.
