As Brandl (2014) states, the seven signs of terrorist activity include surveillance, elicitation, a test of security, acquisition of supplies, new faces in an area, attack rehearsals, and staging the attack by deploying assets or people into positions.

During surveillance, the terrorists tend to personally collect information by observation, recording, photographing and videotaping the possible targets. In elicitation, they tend to get crucial information about their targets from the locals. For example, they can inquire about entries and exits of malls and public places. Their aim is to get information that can help them to conduct a successful operation. They may also test the security of the targeted lace. Such actions include raising false alarms to determine the security response should anything happen. The terrorists can also acquire supplies to aid them to carry out their heinous acts. They can purchase or even steal chemicals, explosives, guns, knives, and many others. Also, they can legal or illegal means to get identification documents to enable them to gain access to a building, an area, or even a country (Nottinghamshire, n.d; Secure Community Network, n.d).

Another sign that can help identify terrorists is a sudden presence of new faces in an area. Such behave in awkward and suspicious manners. Their activities are not usually in line with the rest of the group in the area. They seem out of place as compared to the rest of the population in that area. The people might also practice suspicious runs in an attempt to prepare for the attack and an escape after the attack. The potential terrorist may practice the attacks by training the team on the movement before, during, and after the attack. Finally, the terrorists may deploy their tools, equipment or teams to targeted areas. They may place them is strategic places such they reach them with ease during an attack. For example, they can move bombs and explosives into a building a few days before the planned attack (Nottinghamshire, n.d; Secure Community Network, n.d).
