The correlation between nursing theory and the actual practical clinical practice is increasingly becoming an area of attention in nursing as a healthcare facet. While there exist divergent and contested positions regarding the relationship between nursing theory and practice, it is critical to pinpoint that nursing theory indubitably informs the administration of the clinical practice. Corroborating this thinking is Frankel and PGCMS (2019) who observes that theory provides the linchpin for understanding the nursing practice, which is the ultimate goal for the very nursing theory. From this vantage point, it becomes crucial to note that proponents of this school of thought base their arguments on theory's ability through documented research to provide the basis for further information in clinical scenarios. For instance, the clinical nursing practice would indeed be impossible without theoretical nursing education and teaching. It is for this reason that Landers (2000) put forward the argument that while a gap exists between nursing theory and practice, the gap does not erode the place of theory. Justifying this argument, Landers (2000) postulates that the most critical thing is to minimize the existing gap between theory and practice for more effective evidence-based outcomes that are theoretically supported.

Another significant contribution of nursing theory to clinical practice is in the capacity for theory to provide an evidence-based procedure that informs care administration in clinical or practical scenarios. On this vantage point is nursing theory's ability to offer requisite foundational education on nursing leadership within functional clinical healthcare scenarios. Frankel and PGCMS (2019) contend that leadership theory makes it aware of promoting more patient-responsive and better patient outcomes as nurse leaders become theoretically hence practically aware of transformational leadership and change management. The argument so posited by Frankel and PGCMS (2019) arguably manifest that in the absence of nursing theory, nursing practice from the clinical viewpoint would be lagging much behind than it is today. To this end, therefore, nursing theory is critical in underscoring effective clinical practice through ensuring evidence-based care.
