The study titled “Influence of Music on Preoperative Anxiety and Physiologic Parameters in Women Undergoing Gynecologic Surgery” utilized the purposive sampling method (Labrague & McEnroe-Petitte, 2014). Deliberate or purposive sampling is subjective about the selection of the participants. The judgment of the researcher is used to choose the subjects of the study (Taherdoost, 2016). In this case, the researchers were selective about the hospital that the participants would be recruited from because all the partakers in the research were patients undergoing gynecologic procedures at a government hospital in Samar Province, Philippines (Labrague & McEnroe-Petitte, 2014). In the end, 97 women participated in the study; 48 of them allocated to the non-music group and 48 of them in the music group. These numbers coincide with those used in previous studies.
The first advantage of using utilizing purposive sampling design is its direct approach that allows the researchers to save time and effort that would have been used on data collection. This advantage allowed the researchers to concentrate more on conducting the study and identifying the relationship between the variables (Taherdoost, 2016). Another advantage of utilizing purposive sampling is its ability to add value and credibility to an investigation. Participants used in the study sampling were obtained from niche demographics; therefore, their involvement added to the validity of the study. Results obtained from deliberate sampling also have low margins of error. The main disadvantage of using purposive sampling is the high prone of bias (Taherdoost, 2016). In the research conducted by Labrague and McEnroe-Petitte (2014), the personal interpretation and bias of the researchers were likely to affect the results obtained.

All things considered, utilizing the purposive sampling method promoted reliable and valid results. The advantages of the sampling method contributed to the attainment of credible results. Some of the advantages include a direct approach that saves time, added value by using niche demographics, and high accuracy of the sampling method.
