I once had a conversation with my dad about venturing into the business of buying cryptocurrencies, and he had quite a lot to say. According to him, any form of business has risks, which a person needs to consider, carefully, before venturing into the chosen business. He also mentioned that one needs to conduct thorough research on the business one wishes to venture in beforehand. The manner in which he described what entry into a business portrayed the feeling of caution as well as seemingly coming from experience, which made him ask if he ever ventured into a business activity that failed. He did once venture into a business, and it failed because he had failed to do through research, which would have made him establish that the risks outweighed the benefits. This explained the passionate way with which he reinforced the idea of thorough research before venturing into a particular business activity.
I believe that to interpret correctly, the conversation I had with my dad, I required and utilized excellent listening skills. This is because by listening, I was able to make sense of what my dad was saying especially since he talked passionately about his own experience (Tyagi, 2013). Similarly, I was able to understand fully, where his feelings about venturing into a business were, which I attribute to good listening. Through listening to my dad, I was able to create a stronger rapport with him, thus making it possible for me to go to him for future advice. I was able to make the best decision out of listening and making sense of what my dad had to say about research concerning venturing into new businesses (Brownell, 2015). I was also able to identify the flaws in my previous listening skills, which helped me improve them during the conversation with my dad since I made the right decision eventually.
