Professor Ronald Maguire is an elderly person facing many challenges in his life. He was born in 1937, and it is clear that he has surpassed the life expectancy stage. Elderly limitations, therefore, refers to things that bar the elderly individuals from doing things they used to do freely ( Meiboom et al , 2018) . Maguire, specifically, has various problems, some of which arose from his own making while others occurred naturally due to old age. Therefore, most of them need close assistance on reaching old age. Elderly care is a fundamental practice for the citizens at old age since it offers specialized services that are only unique to them.
Maguire has a series of problems he is acing in life. He has poor eyesight. At one instance, during the interview, I noted he could not even see me well, and at a moment of silence, he would think that he is alone. His eyesight problem can be attributed to diabetes ( Kostadinović, Nikolić, & Šantrić-Milićević, 2018) . The record of health revealed that he is a diabetic patient and that he is often on medication while at home. Also, I noticed that he could not walk all alone sometimes. He has a considerable imbalance on the body. To add insult to injury, he cannot survive without drinking alcohol. One of the family members narrated that he is authoritative and would not listen to any person.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
First, the eyesight problem is as a result of diabetes retinopathy, which affects the light-sensitive tissue blood vessels located at the back of the eye. Well, that is more of a medical condition. Imbalance and improper walking technique can be attributed to his inability to commit to exercise ( Blekesaune, & Haugen, 2018) . Also, he drinks a lot of alcohol, which may hinder his way of thinking about general life skills. As one of the family members narrates, he hardly takes any instruction from anyone, which may be a recipe for his inability to do exercise and remain fit. He often wobbles when walking, and to some extent, he could fall down. At one evening, I watched Maguire being helped from his car to the house after a drinking spree.
There is a lot of life-changing things that can be done to rectify Maguire’s situation. Taking into account that the family has enough resources to take care of him, it is within their capability to assign him one serious masseuse who can take good care of him in terms of exercise sessions. A therapist is a professional and can help in exercise activities ( Nahayatbin et al , 2018). I noted that he can listen to someone he considers professional. There is no doubt, he will heed the instructions from a serious trainer. Some of the things he can do include cycling, walking, and body weight training. Sport is crucial not only for the young persons but also for the elderly.
Considering Maguire’s situation; he has a loving family and I would prefer if he stays at home under family care. The people around him love him so much and they would like to stay around him. Therefore, his staying at home will promote his dignity while he gets proper assistance from the family. Additionally, I would recommend the incorporation of technological assets at home such as bicycles and many more. Also, I would recommend walking. He rarely walks since most of the time he uses either cars to travel or sleeps when not going anywhere. Action should be taken to keep him busy, reduce or eliminate alcohol use, and engage doctors quite often.
There are no perfect living conditions. However, in the case of ideal arrangement for Professor Maguire, there are things that may hinder his living pattern such as relocation of a family member, caregiver migration, and attitude to remain dormant. As stated earlier, Maguire is an authoritative person and he rarely takes in instruction from other people. However, his family members are cognizant of that; as a result, they know how to deal with him. Well, he has a daughter whom he loved much and he takes guides from her. What if she relocates or gets married? Also, his caregiver may decide to be negligent. What about his attitude? He may decide not to obey proposed workout practices.
The use of accessible housing facility is crucial for an aging person. Also, there should be age-friendly environment so that the elderly can get a healthy surrounding for their life ( Hu et al , 2018) . Using easy to ride bikes can be a good plus in promoting exercise. Notably, engaging the elderly can be crucial in making the elderly know that they are still loved. It does not matter whether it is a paid or not- what matters is that they are engaged. The aforementioned conditions can be applicable to Maguire where necessary to promote his dignity.
Elderly care is a fundamental thing in our society. Apart from home care, there are nursing home facilities that aged persons can use. Aging with dignity is a fundamental thing, and those in the situation should be treated with the utmost respect. Notably, Getting to know the needs of a particular elderly can aid in determining ways to help him live. For example, Maguire is reportedly authoritative and drinks a lot, something that can be altered through thorough close assessment. Lastly, the wellbeing of the elderly is a communal affair and it should not be left for one person. Collective indulgence of the society can promote proper care; thus, dignity.
