Racial segregation in education seems to be far from over as witnessed from the YouTube video Brownstone Brooklyn Racial Divide: Why are schools so segregated? The video shows two schools that are very close to each other but are zoned differently. The P.S 8 School serves the larger affluent community that mostly consist of whites and covers a wide zone of the Brooklyn area. The minority population in this school is significantly low. The P.S 307 School serves a smaller community that seem to have been cut out of the larger zone. The population comprises of students mainly from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. However the minority population is adequately represented. Well performing schools such as P.S 8 are mostly associated with the whites and the minority population especially the African American find it very hard to get slots in such a school. When a school starts performing well and everything is going on well the middle class parents moves in and start edging the others out.

The black race has been identified to drag behind the other races showing minimal performances in the tests. Most of the black students are clustered on the tail end of the distribution while the whites and Asians being clustered at the top end. The distribution has experienced relatively low changes for the last ten years which raises a lot of concern on the quality of education that the African American students receive. Whites and Asian hail from fairly well off families thus they have access to quality education leading to the good performance portrayed by the SAT scores. The case is different for the black race as many families struggle with financial status thus taking their children to non-performing schools that are affordable.
