Performance Measures and Productivity Metrics
There are a number of performance measures and productivity metrics that can be used to evaluate the tourism industry in Slovenia. Performance measures for the tourism industry in Slovenia include service quality, resource utilization, profitability, technology and organizational flexibility. Productivity metrics include, but are not limited to, visitor satisfaction, competitive tourism products, efficient marketing and promotion. According to the statistics of the World Tourism and Travel Council, the revenue generated by Tourist activities in Slovenia accounts for about 12.1 percent of the country’s GDP ( 2012-2016 Slovenian Tourism Development Strategy , n.d.). Additionally, tourism accounts for 8 percent of the country’s total export and a tidy 40 percent of the services exports as per the nation’s balance of payments.
The performance measures will play a huge role in determining which sector of tourism and hospitality has been neglected and what activities need to be done in order to ensure the tourism sector in Slovenia expands. Clearly, the 12.1% GDP that tourism contributes to Slovenia’s economy is massive and its ripple effects cannot be underestimated. With regard to the quality of services provided to tourists, there is need to carry out efficient marketing and promotion of the country as a tourist destination. Previously, 2007-2011, the funds available for tourism development were majorly used in enhancing tourism infrastructure. Using the funds in investment in public tourist facilities such as the expansion and building of more hotels would increase the number of jobs in the economy.

The government should provide more tourism development incentives such as lowering tax amounts for hotels that provide tourist-attraction oriented policies that actually work. The state has a responsibility of making Slovenia more accessible through establishing appropriate traffic, rail and flight connections. Doing the same will also boost the economy through increasing visitor satisfaction hence raising the chances of visiting for a second and subsequent times, thus raising national revenue.
Generally, all stakeholders in tourism industry have a solemn obligation to conduct activities aimed increasing the competitiveness of tourism and provision of a favorable business environment. This would massively improve the performance of the tourism industry and in turn contribute even a higher GDP to the country.
