The use of information systems is now inevitable in almost all sectors of an economy. The health sector is one of the areas where information systems play a critical role, especially concerning improving efficiency and effectiveness while enhancing delivery care services. Besides, many health care facilities now rely on information systems to reduce errors. In many cases, nurses interact with information systems more than any other health professional because of the nature of their work ( Moghaddasi et al., 2017) . Thus, the involvement of nurses in the selection and evaluation of information systems is critical to the successful implantation of such technologies in a health facility. Nurses are actively involved in the selection and evaluation of information systems in my work environment.

One of the major roles of nurses in selecting information systems is to ensure that the system is compatible with the need of the nursing staff, especially in terms of functionality. Specifically, nurses have a role in ensuring that the systems can streamline the nursing administration process. Besides, while selecting information systems, nurses check whether the new system can enhance effective collaboration among health professionals within the health facility ( Moghaddasi et al., 2017) . Therefore, nurses within my work environment are concerned about the functionality of information systems. Also, nurses are involved in the cost analysis in the selection process. Nurses must ensure that the system being purchased is cost-effective, and it can improve nursing care services significantly ( Moghaddasi et al., 2017) . Also, nurses within my work environment visit demonstration sites to confirm the relevance and effectiveness of the information systems.

At the same time, nurses play a major role in the evaluation of information systems within my work environment. First, nurses evaluate the effectiveness of information systems to improve nurse workflow. Nurses also evaluate the ease of use of the system. An effective information system should be user-friendly while at the same time, meeting the set goals and objectives in an organization ( Moghaddasi et al., 2017) . Moreover, nurses evaluate the ability of the information system to enhance the medication administration process. An information system is deemed to be effective if it can establish a connected circle of events in the process of drug administration ( Moghaddasi et al., 2017) . Hence, nurses form part of the information systems selection and evaluation team or committee within my work environment.

Employee training on health information system (HIS) is the main strategy that is used to facilitate the implementation of information systems. Human factors such as knowledge and skills in HIS are critical to the successful implementation of information systems in a health facility ( Farzandipur, 2016) . Employee training is also important because it enhances the eases of use of information system, which is essential in the implementation process. The main objective of the training is to ensure that the end-user of information systems have relevant knowledge, skills, and experience to utilize the new technology effectively. The second strategy is the involvement of staff the selection and implementation of the information systems in the organization. According to Farzandipur (2016), employees are likely to embrace the new system if they are actively involved in its selection, implementation, and evaluation.

Therefore, nurses should actively be involved in the planning, selection, implementation, and evaluation of information systems. The process of selecting and evaluating information system should not be left to information technology (IT) experts alone but all staff within an organization. At the same time, the management should create a favorable work environment for implementing information systems to improve their success. Health facilities can no longer ignore information systems.
