Also known as the Second Indochina War, the Vietnam War refers to the period when a divisive conflict pitted the government of North Vietnam against South Vietnam which was a close ally of the United States. Lasting between 1954 and 1975, the Vietnam War was the longest in the history of America. It was divisive across Europe, Australia and elsewhere. He chose to face the setup ditch trap and save his comrades. Albanese found his way to a ditch that had been organized by the enemy. From his position, he was able to kill six snipers. His brave action saved the lives of fellow soldiers in his crew that would have otherwise died. Albanese’s heroism earned him a medal honor as one of the fallen soldiers.
