The proposed themed film festival will be for university students. The primary theme will be ‘Tolerance and Overcoming Obstacles.’ Understanding is an important attribute that everyone must be equipped with, to overcome life’s challenges (Corrigan & White, 2012) . These topics apply to everyone, including students, professionals, and the elderly among other groups of people (Corrigan & Aufderheide, 2014) . The particular films that will comprise the festival’s major events include ‘Remember the Titans’, ‘Men of Honor,’ and ‘Rocky.’ These films are selected to demonstrate the significance of persevering significant challenges and tolerating individual differences due to educational, racial, and ethnic characteristics (Plantinga, 2009). These movies teach that the will and inspiration employed in resolving obstacles define our successes and failures.
‘ Remember the Titans’
In ‘Remember the Titans,’ the coach works to unify a group at a time when racial discrimination is at its peak. For instance, he forces everyone to get off the buses and sit or eat with others from a different race. Another scene that demonstrates tolerance is where the coach asks players to study the differences and similarities between colleagues from the different racial background. The coach intends to explain the similarities across races and the significance of tolerance. Later on, the players are seen mingling in the locker rooms after learning the value of overcoming discrimination and tolerating other people's advantages or disadvantages. These interactions bring out the team as one happy family. Lastly, in the scene where the referee mocks black players due to his racist perceptions, the coach threatens to report the referee’s actions to higher authorities. Essential cinematography aspects emphasizing the coach’s role in this film include the use of strategic shots. For instance, the slight low angle and mid shot emphasize the coach as leading and powerful when he addresses the team along with other coaches behind him (Yakin, 2000). Moreover, there is also the high angle shot towards the end of the film that shows the group bonding with lifted hands to show unity. The high angle shot emphasizes a lot of space in the gym in which they are (Yakin, 2000). Consequently, it brings to mind the aspect of unity that they now diligently seek.

‘ Rocky’
In ‘Rocky,’ the leading actor (Rocky) is presented as a hustler who is trying to make ends meet. Many people do not have faith in his abilities and skills. Hence, he is considered a nobody. However, when he meets Mikey, he is able to gather knowledge and information which Mikey voluntarily offers as he sees the potential that no one else does. During these lessons, Mikey tells his friend that nothing good comes from painless endeavors. As such, he encourages his friend to avoid discouraging comments from other people. In a later scene, Rocky is seen passing on the knowledge from Mikey to his son, about the nasty and mean offerings that the world readily present to the weak, and its abilities to suppress the hopeless. As ‘Rocky’ illustrates, the ability of one to tolerate and overcome the obstacles that come their way defines their successes and failures. Although Rocky loses his sight, later on, he continues to endure and overcome every obstacle to become a successful and prosperous individual. In this particular film, narrative techniques are used to emphasize the theme. For instance, dialogue significantly develops the characters and highlights tolerance. Music is used to increase the drama. For instance, during Rocky’s training in the initial stages of the movie, the music is slow. However, during his last run, the tempo significantly increases, signifying the changes he has experienced in his life.
‘ Men of Honor’
In this film, the character Carl intends to tolerate and overcome issues facing blacks regarding professional or occupational developments and performances. Despite the high level of discrimination in his time, Carl is still hopeful that he can become a master diver. Carl's tolerance is demonstrated in a scene where captain Pullman presents his concerns about the likelihood of black people to be accepted in diving schools. These comments do not affect Carl's decisions, and he successfully makes it to diving school. In another scene, Carl is seen thriving despite Pappy’s threat to prevent black people from becoming master divers. In the scene where Carl is severely injured, his desire to succeed enables him to endure the loss of his leg and prosper as a master diver with a prosthetic leg. As in the cases above, the film is categorized as drama. The genre contributes to the theme by highlighting significant lessons in everyday lives of characters.
Lessons Learnt
Through this film festival, the audience will learn the value of endurance and overcoming obstacles in real life as it relates to the analyzed films. Moreover, they will appreciate the contribution of various techniques in films. The movies ‘Rocky’, ‘Men of Honor,’ and ‘Remember the Titans’ present characters who struggled to overcome various challenges that were deep rooted at that time. The coach in ‘Remember the Titans’ assists players in getting rid of negative racism perceptions and embracing the advantages that diversity brings to the team. Also, Carl succeeds in becoming an achieved diver despite his severe injuries, while Rocky manages to win a world boxing championship due to his tolerance and will to overcome obstacles. Most importantly, the films indicate that an individual’s starting point does not influence their abilities to overcome the barriers, with Rocky being the best example of this notion.
