Every day, people interact, share ideas and make decisions based on critical thoughts. Critical thinking is the ability to make rational decisions under different circumstances (Elder & Paul, 2017). It is an important quality for people in various fields because it helps in solving problems. In fact, a number of fields of practice have different challenges that must be addressed differently. Critical thinking thus enables people to perform their tasks more efficiently. It exposes some of the problems that are likely to occur in the course of performing the task and the possible solutions. Several critical thinking habits can be useful especially for my career path as an Information Technology (IT) expert. Indeed, the field of IT requires critical thinkers who can identify technicalities and provide solutions within the shortest time possible.

The first critical thinking habit that relates to my career path in IT is open-mindedness. The field of IT is broad meaning new knowledge can be learned every day even by those who are experts in this area. Therefore, it is crucial for someone to have an open mind and be ready and willing to learn new ideas. Open-mindedness as an attribute enables people to learn better ways of doing things. It can be a technique that improves the performance or identifies risks and provides a solution before they can happen.

The field of IT has gone through tremendous technological advancements in the past few years. This could not have been possible if the IT experts developed closed minds. As an IT professional, I need to provide solutions to current challenges that are emerging. This would require me to be willing to learn new things to improve my expertise. Moreover, an open mind would help me as an IT expert to share knowledge with colleagues. Through sharing the information, people get to correct their weaknesses and improve their strengths.

The second critical thinking question that is related to IT is analyticity. Indeed, analytical skills are crucial in IT because they help in identifying and solving both simple and complex problems. Information technology involves a lot of complicated analytical processes. In case of system breakdown, the IT experts need to analyze data and other complex information to provide a viable and lasting solution. Some minor mistakes in IT can cause significant challenges. Therefore, the IT professionals need to ensure that their analytical skills are excellent to avoid such errors.

The third critical thinking question is confidence in reasoning. A career in IT would require an individual to have confidence in the way they reason. Often, IT experts work together to provide a solution to a particular challenge. It would be difficult to get a perfect solution if there is no confidence in the process. Additionally, confidence enables the experts to share their views in ways that make it possible to get the best solutions to the existing challenge. Overall, critical thinking is essential especially for someone in the field of IT because it assists in analysis and decision-making. It also promotes inventions and innovations especially because of open-mindedness.
