The health issues facing the older Americans are numerous. They include Cardiac or heart complications, dental issues, decline in subjective cognitive abilities, reduced mobility, and physical fitness challenges among other issues that are associated with age, gender and ethnicity. The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) State of Aging and Health in America, provides a brief summary of these issues including prevalence and how to make informed decisions based on policies that have been developed by research.

Data for coronary heart diseases (CHD) showed that with the increase in the life span of most middle class earners in America, the prevalence of CHD has increased. Classified with age, 10.9 adults of 45 years and older reported serious CHD cases ( Centers for Disease Control and prevention, 2019) . However, of that percentage, 17.0% were aged 65 and above while 7.1% were at 45 to 64 ( Centers for Disease Control and prevention, 2019) . The prevalence of the diseases also varied with levels of education, occupation and ethnicity.

The subjective cognitive decline (SCD) increased with age. Aged individual at 45-64 years showed a 10.8% decline in SCD compared to 11.7% of those aged 65 and above ( Centers for Disease Control and prevention, 2019) . The prevalence was however higher in men than in women, with men reporting 11.3% rates of decline while the women reporting 10.6% rates of decline ( Centers for Disease Control and prevention, 2019) . The SCD also varied with the level of education and occupation, but not with ethnicity.

Generally, it was observed that the longevity of aging patients varied with the quality of care that they received. The aged who received home care showed lower SCDs and more tolerance to CHDs compared to those who were under institutional care. The warmth and embers of being with their families enabled them to live longer and happier. Again, this depended on the relationship the aged individual had with the family, the financial status of the family and the levels of education.
