Key Concept Explanation

Maintenance is an essential practice in every state of the art company in the world. Recent developments have resulted in the development of total productive maintenance (TPM). Under complete productive support, all employees are involved in productiveness in a company. The wholesome inclusion of the workers in development has been known to provide more sound policies regarding development. Furthermore, TPM has brought about harmony among the employees of a given company. Upon successful implementation of total productive maintenance procedures, the overall performance such as financial growth is evident in the businesses. TPM provides a platform for the open interactions between the management and the employees (Agustiady & Cudney, 2018).

Comparison

According to Sharma, Singh, & Rastogi (2016), total productive maintenance has recently been trendy among the modern day companies. TPM has been known to encompass the operational aspects of an organization to improve effectiveness. TPM makes it easier for the employees to complete their assigned tasks by providing the reliability and the efficiency of the facilities used, brought about by the workers' rapport in maintenance procedures. TPM leads to respect for the environment too. Sharma, Singh, & Rastogi (2016) is similar to the textbook regarding the care of the surroundings brought about by the practice of TPM, the efficiency of the machines, and the competence of the employees. Therefore, TPM is an integral part of daily business activities.

On the other hand, contrary to the textbooks information, the integration of total productive management in a venture, according to Poduval & Pramod (2015), is not a smooth process as it would appear to be. Several barriers are evident in the application of TPM into the operations of the company. The obstacles are detected by the Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM). One of the main challenges to the implementation is the possibility of contradiction arising from the employees who are already working with other operational strategies. The textbook lays down the aspects of the introduction of TPM in a more straightforward way that does not look at the detailed analysis of the possibilities of problems coming up due to the introduction of TPM.

Article Summary

Holism is the central principle underlying the need and the effectiveness of the integration of total productive maintenance. Unlike the autonomous productive maintenance, TPM offers inclusivity to all the employees from the various departments of an organization. The inclusivity is vital in enhancing the responsibility of every employee. The burden comes in where the employees' involvement in taking care of their own facilities programs their mind into cyclical caring of the machinery. Total productive maintenance results into a company with working facilities such as the various machines. Their functionality leads to the efficiency in production and day-to-day operations of the company (Agustiady & Cudney, 2018).

The merits of total productive maintenance are numerous. To begin with, TPM leads to fewer breakdowns of the machinery in a company. The monitoring of the machines is usually done by the technicians from time to time making sure that failures are rare, especially the unexpected ones. Total productive maintenance leads to the assurance of the employees' safety while working with the facilities they have. The security is brought about by the effectiveness of the machines, and the devices being devoid of faults owing to the regular checkups. The overall organizational performance is realized with the introduction of TPM to the handling of the various operations in the distinct departments in a venture. In the long run, an economic upsurge in performance is noted (Agustiady & Cudney, 2018).

Biblical Integration

The bible has a say on total productive maintenance. "Because of laziness, the building decays, and through idleness of hands the house leaks." NKJV, Ecclesiastes 10:18. The Bible stresses the need for maintenance. The verse can be connected to the need and urgency of total productive maintenance in real life businesses. "Feed the flock of God which is among you…" NKJV, 1 Peter 5:2. The verse talks about the maintenance of the church in management oversights. Top management officials in the companies should take care of their juniors to enhance maintenance. "And if any man obeys not our word…note that man…" NKJV, 2 Thessalonians 3:14.The verse is a call for the employees to be principled and follow the TPM strategies.

Application

Total productive management is used in the technological advancement field. TPM is used in big data analytics and cyber-physical systems. The use of TPM in such areas is used in the provision of efficiency to the policies and composers that process data in the organizations. TPM is likely to improve the handling of data in state of the art companies (Lee, Ardakani, Yang, & Bagheri, 2015). Modern day companies have to keep developing strategies that contribute to the welfare of the employees, the respect and conservation for their environment, and most importantly the maintenance of the facilities to enhance smooth operations in the in the handling of various tasks. The strategies are usually efficient with the introduction of TPM to an organization (Faccio, Persona, Sgarbossa, & Zanin, 2014).

According to Agustiady & Cudney (2018), total productive maintenance in an organization seeks to achieve a holistic approach in the way that supports the company is handled. Maintenance is usually essential to a company's growth and normal operations since it provides continuity and renewed energy to projects and the handling of the various tasks. TPM relies on the primary factors that enhance the smooth running of the day-to-day operations of a company. Some of them are the support accorded to the processes by the top management, and efficient communication between the employees in different departments. TPM leads to better handling of facilities in a company enabling them to have a longer life expectancy.

Sharma, R., Singh, J., & Rastogi, V. (2016). Importance and effectiveness of human-related Issues in implementing total productive maintenance: a study of Indian manufacturing organisations. International Journal of Industrial and Systems Engineering , 23(4), 420.

Total productive maintenance plays the essential role of integrating the employees, their facilities, and the environment. According to the strategies laid out in line with TPM, the facilities perfection plays a chief function in raising the morale of the employees and their willingness to handle various tasks assigned to them. TPM minimizes the wastes produced by the various machinery due to the fault by ensuring they are in right working conditions. By reducing the wastes disposed to the environment, the environmental conservation efforts of an organization are realized. The employees are the most critical determinants of the success of TPM (Sharma, Singh, & Rastogi, 2016).

Poduval, P. S., Pramod, V. R., & V. P., J. R. (2015). Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) And its application in analyzing factors inhibiting implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). International Journal of Quality & Reliability Management , 32(3), 308-331.

The integration of the total productive maintenance to the working of the activities in a company may not be as smooth as it seems. Being a recent development in the world of business, TPM may not be welcomed in every employee base in the organizational setups. Of course, TPM has very comprehensive strategies of implementation and functionality, but some of the companies prefer to retain their traditional plan rather than bear with the discomfort of introducing a new and very different approach that is likely to revolutionize their way of doing things in the company. The barriers are easily seen when the use of Interpretive Structural Modeling is done in analyzing total productive maintenance (Poduval & Pramod, 2015).

The dynamic characteristic of the information and communication technology has posed challenges as well as providing opportunities for them in today's market. To minimize the obstacles and include more focus on the opportunities in the market, big data analytics has been made better using TPM. The cyber-physical systems provide a promising future in the art of maintenance and innovation, which is part of what top productive support is all about. Faccio, M., Persona, A., Sgarbossa, F., & Zanin, G. (2014). Industrial maintenance policy Development: A quantitative framework. International Journal of Production Economics , 147, 85-93.

Productivity, flexibility, and quality are some of the factors that the manufacturing companies use to come up with their strategies such as those affecting the industrial maintenance. The companies are faced with an uphill task in identifying the procedures that will be implemented and positively favor their productivity, positively impact quality, and offer more flexibility to the workers for subsequential production. The strategies used by the companies for maintenance may prove to be difficult and have no space for the involvement of all employees in the support. Total productive maintenance has come to change the approach of conservation for the industrial companies by providing a holistic view of the act of maintenance. It has improved businesses operations (Faccio, Persona, Sgarbossa, & Zanin, 2014).
