Organizations often get established, thrive, and survive because of the fact that they sell services and products to their customers and earn revenue. Increased competition and globalization have heightened the demand for companies to provide excellent services and products on a continuous basis. In addition, a new technology that comes with new techniques needs new types of skills. Therefore, training the employees both intellectually, physically, mentally, and socially is very vital in terms of helping to upgrade the skills of the employee and the company. Employees’ training programs are considered to be part of good risk management strategies and good management practices. Training programs are also vital in improving people’s self-efficiency which is the belief that they can do specific tasks. One company that takes advantage of the training process is McDonald’s USA. 

How the Training Function Supports the Organizational Strategy of McDonald’s 

At McDonald’s, the company believes in continuous learning and thus, provides training and development for all its employees with the aim of refining their skills (McDonald's, 2017). Another aim of the program is helping employees to grow in their current position or even transition to new roles in the organization. Training supports the organizational strategy of the company in terms of ensuring that there are fool proof and smooth operations management and career progression. It helps the company maintain its characteristics of providing the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene, customers’ service, and quality assurance in all its restaurants around the world. In addition, the process provides a competitive advantage to the company.

How Training Provides a Competitive Advantage to McDonald’s 

The quality of workers and their skills, which are acquired through training, are vital in determining the profitability of McDonald’s. Investments in the skills of the employees through training programs help in increasing the overall productivity and efficiency of the company. It, in turn, helps in improving the competitive advantage of the company that includes having a brand that is recognized worldwide and being able to maintain external relationships with suppliers such as Coca Cola. However, for the training program to be effective, there is a need for integrity and ethics in the process ( Korda, 2012) . 

The Role of Ethics and Integrity in Training 

Ethics and integrity play vital roles in training in this company by generally making sure that the process is effective. In addition, it provides a conducive atmosphere for learning during the process. Integrity and ethics help employees understand that professional behavior is expected at all times even during the training process and thus it helps the process to achieve its goals. In addition, integrity and ethics among the employees promote teamwork through inspiring trust among workers. Teamwork in the training process is an advantage to the company because it will also be reflected when employees are working because they will respect and appreciate each other so that they can achieve the set goals ( Valerio, 2014) . Finally, an environment that has ethics and integrity is generally a pleasant place. Such an environment raised the morale of employees to be trained. Workers often feel valued in such an environment and get encouraged to train so that they can improve their skills and be able to help the company achieve its goals. 

McDonald’s Strategy that Makes it one of the Top 12 Training Companies 

McDonald’s follows a different strategy in its training process that makes it among the top 12 companies around the world. More specifically, the organization does not ignore temporary workers in its training programs so that they can help the company in meeting its objectives. In addition, they are often given the opportunity to participate in the regular development days. The overall point of all the training activity is providing an entrance exam where employees who succeed get the opportunity to attend a training course that is properly structured, which is often under the supervision of a training department that is at the regional office. A successful completion of the training program provides the employee with the opportunity to get a management type of position. Finally, the company is different because it usually develops a Curriculum for all the new recruits. 

How the Organization Can Further Improve the Training Function 

McDonald’s has a training program that is very effective and which has helped it to maintain a competitive advantage in the market. However, there is always need for improvement to ensure that the process is effected by making sure that the training need and processes change with changes in the environment. It is vital for the company to analyze the changes in the environment because it operates in an environment where customers often change their tastes and preferences, and one which is very competitive. Such a strategy will help it in maintaining its competitiveness.

McDonald’s is known for great customer experience and great food. To maintain and even improve the reputation of the company, it is vital for it to have an effective training program. Training the employees has become vital for companies in making sure that employees perform quality work, which will in turn help in maintaining and improving the performance of the company. However, for the training programs to remain effective in the company, it is vital for the company to analyze the changes in the environment because it operates in an environment where customers often change their tastes and preferences, and one which is very competitive.
