Innovation and change form part and parcel of an organization that is under any form of transition. Innovation triggers change, and for a company to undergo successful innovation and change process, there should be a competent leader who will take the company through all the changes that are anticipated. Leaders should develop their skills through sources such as; legitimate power; this is where the leader will obtain a position through influence and hence can be able to lead others. Legitimate power can be obtained when a leader is chosen by a group or a team of people. Expert power is also another source of leadership skill; it involves the ability of a leader to be recognized as having leadership talent and granting the individual an opportunity to exercise their leadership skills. Another source of skill is information; this is where the leader is more informed that other people and hence could use the platform to share knowledge and showcase his skills (Northouse, 2014) .
