The Novel “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”, written By Harriet Beecher Stowe is famously known by many people to have laid out the framework and the basis for the Great War. This is because the book was written in the mid-19th-century focus on the evil and oppression faced by the people in the community. The book talked of several atrocities and crimes against humanity. Such included crimes such as the slavery, Racism and gender biases in the American community. By targeting such matters Harriet was touching the untouchable, the real issues in the society that nobody wanted to tackle, such is said to have caused a revolution and was the brains behind the great civil war in America. This is not just the views of the late Abraham Lincoln but the views of very many others who align the events of the war with the plot of the novel. From the plot of the novel to the themes evidence, it is clear that the author was trying to relay a message to the oppressed community in America. By mentioning such issues, she triggered the slave to start a revolution in order to end and abolish the slave trade in the continent.

This was mostly done by targeting the Christians who would eventually read the novel thereby trying to convince them to abolish slavery. The Novel itself was not what caused the civil war, but it played a major role in escalating the tension between the North and the South, encouraging slaves to run away to the Free States to join revolutions ready to fight for their freedom. Although there are several complains that the novel may have been racist, the author had to use perspective with the ultimate goal to create a clear image of what evils slavery did to the society. The novel had the sole purpose of informing the world of the crimes created by allowing slavery to continue. This pushed many states to join the union, and when many slaves joined the union and pushed for secession, this is what set of the civil war between the north and the south.

From the plot, characters, themes and literary devices used, it is clear that Harriet was using imagery which was quite evident that it was the white versus the Black, how the masters treated their slaves. Because she was among the many whites who were in the slavery abolition movement, writing the novel would appeal to many more Christians in the community, and she would not have to call names ensuring that she did not make any enemies and still maintained her powerful allies. The book faced very many obstacles in its publications as it came with many controversies. In the north, the book was top-rated, while in the south, it was considered infamous and in other states, reading the book was considered illegal as well. Uncle Tom as a character was made to be more realistic, though she says that their characters were not based on actual people, this is also contradictory as Harriet admitted that the contents of the books were more factual than fictional. Before the book was sold to the rest of the world, it was mostly read out loud by the states in the North as they were in support of the abolition of slavery while the south that was against this couldn't stand the popularity of the Book. If closely followed, it is true that some of the ideas from the Book is what was used by the Union soldiers and the slaves to start and win the civil war at large (Stowe, 1995).
Although there is no proof that the Former president Abraham Lincoln said these words to Harriet Beecher, "So you're the little lady who wrote the book that started this Great War,' it is true that it was her work that played a major role in starting the war. Although the war could not have been avoided forever, she used her religion to appeal to her fellow Christians to work together to eradicate the Corrupt and evil society that was bent on using Human beings as slaves, mistreating them and treating other humans with cruelty. The Novel did not fight for the abolition of slavery; it fought for the emancipation of the slaves. The real task was not being free but was being accepted by the society as equals despite their religion or color of their skin. The Book is evidence enough of the troubles experienced by the slaves in the 19th century and all the struggle encountered by the African Americans in the struggle to end racism and for equal opportunities in the Free American soil. The book also pushed for the establishment of anti-slavery laws and policies that implicated anyone who would be caught engaging in any form of slavery. Uncle Tom was not just a novel, but a piece of history remind the world of the cost of freedom and the need for all human to be treated equally regardless of the color of their skin.
