One of the ways in which nutrition leads to cardiovascular disease is when one consumes too many carbohydrates, which do not end up being used in the body (British Nutrition Foundation, Stanner & Coe, 2014). When such a situation arises, the carbohydrates are converted into fats and stored into the body tissues, especially under the skin (British Nutrition Foundation et al., 2014). However, after some time, these fats find their way into the blood capillaries where they are stored. They lead to the constriction of blood vessels, which make it impossible for blood supply to be carried out effectively in the body (British Nutrition Foundation et al., 2014). The heart is, therefore, made to use extra energy to pump the blood around the body (British Nutrition Foundation et al., 2014). A time may arise when the heart is unable to pump the blood as it may be overwhelmed by the force that is required to pump blood. It eventually collapses and stops working. That is when heart failure will be said to have taken place, leading to a cardiovascular condition.
In some situations, too much fatty foods that people consume find their way around the heart where it is stored (Neighbors & Tannehill-Jones, 2014). The fats that surround the heart make it impossible for the heart to carry out its pumping function. The reason is that the pumping action is made up of a series of contractions and expansions that require space and flexibility to do so (Neighbors & Tannehill-Jones, 2014). In situations where fatty tissues surround the heart, the expansions and contractions cannot take place as is expected. The heart muscles are unable to contract and go back to their normal position after pumping blood. It, therefore, reaches a point where there are uneven contractions and expansions of the heart, which lead to heart failure. Sometimes, the heart may not go back to its normal position after pumping blood, which leads to a lack of blood flow to the rest of the body (Neighbors & Tannehill-Jones, 2014). The person whose heart is covered by the fatty tissues is then likely to die as he is unable to control the flow of blood in his body tissues resulting from a malfunctioning heart.

The information that I have gathered about nutrition is that it can lead me to an early grave if I am not mindful of what I eat. I have learned that I should ensure I eat the right food in the right quantity that will not lead me to gaining unnecessary weight that may be disastrous to my life. I should also avoid eating excess of one food only. Therefore, I should ensure I eat a balanced diet in quantities that will not lead me into becoming obese. Overall, the main lesson is that I should avoid accumulating body fats by being selective on what I eat. I will apply what I have learnt as a future nurse in prevention of diseases relating to nutrition. I will also be sure to teach my patients on the importance of a healthy diet thus healthy leaving to avoid diseases associated with unhealthy eating such as obese.
